My brother-in-law's rotti passed a month ago. He was in his 17th year, weighed 140 lbs and his choice of battles was against snakes. He had a special bark for warning when the snakes were around and, living in the Yuha Desert, there were plenty around all summer.
I never met a Rottweiler who was a gentleman like he was. He was an excellent teacher, as well. He taught a young Queensland healer how to deal with snakes, so with his passing my brother-in-law still has a snake dog on the property. I remember watching him train the healer when she thought that a snake was just another play thing. He was so insistent with her that he threw his weight into the equation and she soon got his message.
