Tarpley's a great historical analyst, and I love listening to him; but, when he swerves off into his current public policy ideas, I want to puke.

Thanks for this exchange.

Webster Tarpley says you have to go to college to learn new languages?

No, you don't have to go to college to learn a new language. People have been learning each other's tongues for thousand of years before colleges were invented. You can learn to order a hamburger in Hamburg using a phrase book or by signing up at a language school. You can go the hard knocks way and just go live in a place and get it the natural way.

But if you're doing more than just traveling, if you're doing business or engineering or medicine, you gotta have your ducks in a row. You have to do some serious study in a structured environment. You want teachers that are steeped in German or Portuguese, or Arab culture. You might need specialized classes where you will learn how to write a report or negotiate some business.

Colleges and high schools screwed up language learning for years with bad methods just like they screwed up math instruction and a whole lot of other stuff. I can't say that I have much respect for the American system of education as it has developed over the last 60 years. However, if you really want to use a foreign language, like we're using it now for instance to discuss these kinds of issues, you won't get it off a CD or at Berlitz. You have to commit yourself to a well thought out program and do some serious study.

"If you want to exercise political power, you need an organization, and this is where the libertarian mindset fails completely."

There is a lot to be said for this indictment of the Ron Paul movement. It's raised a lot of bucks, but in the last analysis it has not even earned a place at the table commensurate with its numbers. In fact, it hasn't earned a place at the table at all.

I'm afraid that what he says about RP is true in many ways. As Cyni says, all the energies put forth by Paul supporters in the end have only benefited Romney and gone to earn Rand a seat in the very councils where those vultures sit whom we all despise.

Should this prove to be the case, as it looks more and more likely; then I'll have to join others here in sitting out participating on the national level, and concentrate my little efforts here in the local arena.

Sir Lod...

Sadly, far too many of my friends here on 4um have not done their homework, nor at least given much time to considering that, JUST PERHAPS THE SYSTEM WAS GAMING ALL OF US.

Rand Paul was the answer, to anyone with an open and curious mind. Anyone watching and listening to Rand would never have supported his Father.

I had someone on the 4um post the add that Rand has posted on the internet, looking for money to break all big labor unions. No one paid any attention.

The system has gamed the American voters one more time.

Tarpley is a progressive...

Tarpley reminds me of Lyndon Larouche - he does a brilliant analysis and then promptly draws the wrong conclusions.

I was thinking more along his social and economic policies. He doesn't like Ron Paul because he doesn't like the Austrian School. Webster is leftist statist.

I suspect after the election, many people will have a different view on Ron Paul. Unfettered support by Rand for Oromney should have opened a few peoples eyes, of course those with a closed mind will never see the light.

Uh-huh. So you continue to spread gloom about the hopelessness of any change.

Nevertheless, the people still vote to elect the clowns. It is within their power to radically change the country over a six-year period.

It isn't the system. It's the voters. Like it always has been.

Good for him. They need to be broken. Losers like yourself who couldn't make it without a government handout shouldn't have a better retirement that those who actually pay your salaries.

Hayek...

I was near thirty when I realized I knew nothing of the world on my own, everything in my head had been taught to me, in an organized and structured agenda. The question was, perhaps I had been lied to and what had been omitted by design.

So I started reading on my own and about that time, to my good fortune, three much older gentlemen entered my life, all were retired, one after thirty two years in the military, WW2 and Korea, another was a retired maritime lawyer and sea captain, the third was a Godson of Dr. Schacht.

They were a treasure trove of first hand knowledge, gathered from around the world, over a lifetime of many years. From those three gentlemen, I learned what had been omitted by the state education.

My real education was free for the taking.
