Little details are leaking out from the from the new book "Kill or Capture: The War on Terror and the Soul of the Obama Presidency" by journalist Daniel Klaidman.
Earlier this week we heard about the president's "kill list" which State Department lawyer Harold Koh handled "like baseball cards"
But now the Daily Beast has captured some more details including this one:
One terrorist Obama was reportedly particularly set on seeing killed or captured was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen and radical cleric who was killed by a drone in Yemen last September. Al-Awlaki obsessed Obama after the success of the attack on bin Laden, Klaidman reports, telling advisers at a weekly counterterrorism meeting, “I want Awlaki. Don’t let up on him.” According to sources, the president even considered allowing for some collateral damage if it meant taking out Awlaki, asking that advisers keep him apprised of any opportunity to eliminate the cleric. This certainly doesn't fit into the popular conservative image of a president that is diffident when it comes to the war on terror. Instead, it seems to confirm the fears of liberals that Obama is expanding the legal authorities of the president during an unending war.
