Ron Paul made a deal with the devil, Rand will be the beneficiary. That "deal" was consummated many months ago. Anyone shifting their allegiance to Rand is making a huge mistake.
For your theory to hold true, Rand would have to be Romney's VP, or be given a power position in his potential cabinet. I seriously doubt that the Establishment Pubes want anything to do with RPs folks, most of whom won't be bothering to support Romney.
I think it's likely that that the Establishment Pukes will try to throw them some kind of bone. Unless they can rip 'Bama a major hemorrhage between now and November, they'll need the damn votes. But Rand Paul is not on anybody's short list and that list is depressing reading. It's like being orphaned for the holidays by your folks and you get to pick which drunk uncle you're gonna stay with. Come to think of it, I'd rather hang out with my drunk uncle that spend the summer with someone like Rob Portman.
I'm guessing you are also a supporter of RP? If so randge, is there any bone the Establishment could throw us (save refusing to send kids off to unconstitutional wars) that could appease us? I can't think of one besides what I just mentioned.

Cyni, FYI, there are poor losers and poor winners.... I did not win anything, I lost just like the rest of Pauls supporters. I went down the tubes big time in 08 and fell for a sucker punch. Not twice by the same politician. Those that are now scorned by the Pauls one more time, need to suck it up, because the Pauls ARE NOT THRU WITH THEM YET. I kid you about the wet kisses and smoochies at the convention, my estimate is that it will turn our stomachs. You aint seen nuthin yet. This deal with the devil goes far beyond this years election. The Bush tribe is waiting to dry gulch anyone that MIGHT INFRINGE ON JEBS FUTURE. We all lost Jethro, get beyond that, what the deal attempts to do is beyond our comprehension. Currently, I believe the system has decided to have done with Obongo, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, HIS TIME HAS COME. Odds on Oromney and continued wars, change of color only.
I didn't support RP in '08, in fact I intentionally left this 4um for nearly a month so as not to rain on their parade. I supported him this time, and got burnt. That said, your assumption that RP folks are going to vote for Romney is off the mark. Did they vote for McCain in '08? All Rand did with this announcement is blow up the Liberty movement RP created. As to his motive, well, I'm thinking he's a politician as you are found of saying, but I'm open to any and all hunches.

Nearly sixty million voted for McKook Jethro. Sixty million. Romney surely is more palatable than McKook and Obongo is still black. If Oromney wins it will be because of democrat votes, last time they went black. Not all democrats are that hide bound.
