For your theory to hold true, Rand would have to be Romney's VP, or be given a power position in his potential cabinet. I seriously doubt that the Establishment Pubes want anything to do with RPs folks, most of whom won't be bothering to support Romney.

I think it's likely that that the Establishment Pukes will try to throw them some kind of bone. Unless they can rip 'Bama a major hemorrhage between now and November, they'll need the damn votes.
But Rand Paul is not on anybody's short list and that list is depressing reading. It's like being orphaned for the holidays by your folks and you get to pick which drunk uncle you're gonna stay with. Come to think of it, I'd rather hang out with my drunk uncle that spend the summer with someone like Rob Portman.

I am not naive enough to think that voting for a Romney/Paul ticket will further the cause. It might set up Rand for a run for Pres in the future but it will have to be without my vote.
It appears as if the pubs are melding into two blocs, Romney/Pauls, the other the Bush cabal.
Doesn't look like that to me. More like two oldtime blocs -- Romney's and the Bush cabal's -- and a new party wing arising for the Ron Paul Revolution.
