The research by a group of 22 international scientists, including biologists, geologists, paleontologists, ecologists and theoreticians claimed the global ecosystem could soon reach a tipping point as the human population and consumption rates continue to grow. A global state shift occurs when from 50 to 90 percent of ecosystems are disrupted, the study says. "Humans now dominate Earth, changing it in ways that threaten its ability to sustain us and other species," Nature quoted the report as saying. The consequences of such a global change in the ecosystem are unknown, but the researchers think it could trigger severe changes in world's agriculture, forests, water resources and fisheries, Nature said, adding all these effects could lead to the widespread social unrest, economic instability and loss of human life. The scientists deliberately avoided the word doomsday in their findings, calling it a tipping point. "It really will be a new world, biologically, at that point," Nature quoted Anthony Barnosky, professor of integrative biology at the University of California, Berkeley as saying. Barnosky suggested half of the Earth's land would be altered by humans by 2025, adding it would be "disturbingly close" to a potential global tipping point. Poster Comment: arnoldvinette@yahoo.com I have had my own dire prediction of a world calamity on August 17, 2028 with regards to an asteroid strike near Yellowstone Park, so I am right there with the article. By the way my June 12, 2009, premonition may have inspired the new Asteroid Impact movie. I will have to wait and see. But with regards to humans and the Earth environment, humans are just too darn successful at reproductivity. Continuous growth is NOT GOOD for cities or the environment. Where I live in Ottawa, Canada the politicians were slapping each other on the back because of 10% to 25% growth in the city. Politicians who worship growth do not understand the consequences of this growth. We live in a world of finite energy, resources, land, food supplies. There is a limit to how many people can life on the planet. This documentary will bring it home to you and help you understand the math. http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/arithmetic-population-and-energy-lecture/ Arnold Vinette Ottawa, Canada Reply arnoldvinette@yahoo.comHome - A well done documentary on the problem 19:25, 09/06/2012 Home http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU&feature=watch-now-button&wide=1 This movie has some beautiful photography from all over the world and is amazing too watch. However there is an undercurrent of a negative message when it comes to describing man as over populating the Earth and using up all of its resources. There is a lot of complaining in this movie with regards to many of the world's people who are starving, loosing their drinking water, live in poverty and so forth. Well do something about it! People live in poverty because this is the situation they create for themselves. Poverty is created by a central government and supported by the people because they don't know any better. Money is an invention of man, therefore by its very nature it is an UNLIMITED commodity. Period. If there is a shortage of money. This shortage has been artificially created through whatever means. People must learn to value themselves as an important asset to do work in their society, whatever it is and whatever they LOVE to do. This very simple concept is called "Work Credits". Value people to do work in their society, whatever it is and pay them for it. "Work Credits" for exchange are created by the very existence of people to do work. There can NEVER be a shortage of Work Credits to compensate people for doing work in their society. Because the very existence of people to do work create the Work Credits. Therefore by this very definition of money, all of the financial crisis taking place around the world today have been artificially created by their governments and a group of people who WANT and DESIRE to create these shortages of capital in countries. Countries can control their own money supplies and refuse to do so. People who are unemployed due to an economic crisis in their country are simply allowing themselves to be controlled under valued and manipulated by the very societies they live in. People MUST learn to value themselves as the MOST IMPORTANT asset in their economies to do work that benefits that society and economy. This is a very simple concept called "Work Credits". When human civilization learns to value people as its MOST VALUABLE natural resource, the very concept of unemployment will cease to exist. There is never a shortage of "Work Credits" in a society where there are people willing to work for their society doing what they love. Because the very existence of people create the "Work Credits". The Earth's climate is changing due to global warming. Yes and no. The sun's energy output has a lot to do with climate conditions on Earth. The Earth's climate is ALWAYS changing. People must live and adapt with this fact. Just because because people have built their huge cities at the edge of the oceans around the world does not mean the cyclical climate of the Earth will stop. Cities will rise and fall due to the new living circumstances. Many of Earth's people are starving. Yes, there are too many people for these areas to support. There MUST be a population cule, this is called starvation. The Earth is running out of resources. Yes. We will then do without. The glaciers are melting. Yes. Glaciers grow and shrink every 75,000 years on average. Enjoy the fact that we are leaving an ice age. In the future there will be insufficent food for all the people on Earth. Yes. Starvation will then reduce Earth's human population bringing it back into check with the food supply available. Agriculaturally rich countries should feed the poorer countries. No! This would continue to create a population crisis in the poorer countries that cannot feed themselves. If your area cannot support its population then the population should be culled through starvation. Otherwise a bad situation becomes even worse. The Earth is running out of oil and fossil fuel energy. Yes! Our oil based civilization ends in 2030 based on current oil consumption versus known reserves. After 2030 the industrial nations will have to adjust to a world without fossil fuel energy. Mass agriculture practices may end resulting in mass starvation of a large percentage of the Earth's population now dependent on mass agriculture. Again human civilization will have to adapt to this new reality. The Earth is running out of fish. Yes over population and over fishing is the result. When the fish run out these people will either find new sources of food or starve to death. It all comes down to supply and demand. The Earth's population grew accordingly to the supply of fish available. Since the supply of fish will now be declining, so too will the human population depending upon this food resource. Growth simply CANNOT go on forever with fixed food, water, and natural resources. Growth is BAD! A much smaller stable population is GOOD. This is a fundamental law of nature and it CANNOT be changed. Great video images! Amazing in fact! The information provided in this film seems to be completely true, based on my own knowledge and research. Yet the overall message is negative and very misleading.
