I think this was the worst storm I've ever seen in Ft. Wayne. There's damage everywhere. What a mess.

My wife sustained a very minor head injury when a part of a tree fell on her car as she was driving to my mother's house. Her car was not so lucky.

Wow. Sorry to hear that.

You never know when it's gonna get ya.

My wife insisted on sleeping elsewhere during Hurricane Ike. When we got home there was a huge oak tree laying on the roof. It had fallen across the rafters. If it had fallen parallel, it would have sliced through the danged house.

Hope your wife's OK, Esso.

I'm not sure if it's the same system, but it's heading smack dab to central PA as I type. Put the wife on the roof as a look out.

Update: 8:45 PM, 6/29/2012

A severe storm system with heavy rain, hail and wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour moved across northern and east central Indiana and southwestern Michigan on June 29. The storm damaged trees and downed power lines as it moved through the area and interrupted electric service for over 107,000 I&M customers in the region. About 80,000 of the customers affected are in the greater Fort Wayne area. There are also significant numbers of outages in areas around South Bend, Elkhart, Muncie, Marion and east central Indiana. Report problems in your area using our online reporting system.

Because the storm caused extensive damage over such a large area, customers who lost power should prepare for the possibility of prolonged outages. I&M is working to bring in crews from outside its service area to assist with the restoration effort.

Preliminary estimates for restoration of service:
Elkhart and surrounding area: midnight Saturday
South Bend and surrounding area: midnight Sunday
Muncie, Marion and east central Indiana: midnight Monday
Fort Wayne and surrounding area: midnight Wednesday

Godfrey Smith: Mike, I wouldn't worry. Prosperity is just around the corner.
Mike Flaherty: Yeah, it's been there a long time. I wish I knew which corner.

Around 2 PM on June 29, a severe thunderstorm packing wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour moved across northern and east central Indiana

It arrived on the Eastern shore of Maryland at midnight with 80 mph winds and took out the power instantly. 600 miles in 10 hours = 1,242 mph or something like that.

I hope to hear you're alright, Esso. Those thunderstorms tend to make me very tense. Especially when we get those intense lightening storms. Some people laugh at me for saying that but when you get gust storms up to 55 mph and lightening, it's nothing to laugh at. Stay safe. If you have to drive in those conditions, pull over to the side.

Latest update: The number of outages in Allen Co. peaked at about 80,000 (~55%) this afternoon. I & M has only restored about 5% of the outages in 24 hours. They're sticking to their story of power not being restored until Wed. midnight. All my generators are in service except one which I'm keeping in reserve in case the unit at Mom's joint fails.

My phone is ringing off the hook with people wanting me to install generators now that you can't get one for love or money. I tell 'em, "The time to install generators is when the sun is shining, not in the middle of a crisis. It's called preparation."

In between tending generators, the wife & I got about three-quarters of the tree damage on our property cleaned up.

One more round of tending about 9:30 tonight & I'm packin' it in. Been a damn long day.
