GENEVA (Reuters) - Scientists at Europe's CERN research centre have found a new subatomic particle, a basic building block of the universe, which appears to be the boson imagined and named half a century ago by theoretical physicist Peter Higgs.
"We have reached a milestone in our understanding of nature," CERN director general Rolf Heuer told a gathering of scientists and the world's media near Geneva on Wednesday.

I was hoping they would not find it. Would cause chaos in physics.
Alas, the Standard Model still lives.

I'm so relieved to hear that Mr. Higgs has found his particle.

He needs to be more careful where he puts those sort of things.

I understand it is of considerable worry to physicists and those kinds of people.

I have the Higgs Boson and if any of you want to see it unharmed again you'll leave one million dollars, in unmarked nonsequential $20 bills, in a suitcase by the entrance to the Central Park Zoo!

Someday we will learn there are even smaller particles than even the Higgs Boson particle. To think that today we have reached the pinnacle of scientific knowledge would be foolish. Any scientific experiment should be reproducible, and if it isn't then it should not be accepted as a fact. So don't get too excited yet, they have yet to reproduce this experiment.

I'm waiting for the "Magoo particle" that I theorized while drinking in college.

I sense a disturbance in the farce. Much gnashing will ensue.
