Knowing what I know of both Ron and Rand, I would say that Rand called Ron and it went something like this:

Rand: "Dad, I think I should endorse Romney".

Ron: "Are you out of your freaking mind?"

And that it kinda went downhill from there.

Ron respects other people's rights so unlike politicians, he's not in the habit of telling people, including Rand, what to do and what not to do. Rand is a big boy and can make his own decisions, no matter how ill-advised they are. Rand and Ron are two different guys, and that's all there is too it.
