As much as I like Blade Runner (Original Cut) I have to go with Avatar as my all time favorite Science Fiction movie.

I've seen them both, Avatar IMHO was awesome. I don't seem to understand the criticisms of it from the lefties. The criticism from the war mongers I understand, but couldn't disagree more with.

One of my favorite Scifi movies was Re-animator, a bit campy, but I am a bit that "way".

Well, I suspect that in dealing with the lefty loons that you make the mistake of thinking rationally and not analyzing everything from the point of view of Dialectical Materialism - which is largely devoid of logic.

The criticism from the war mongers I understand, but couldn't disagree more with.

They don't like it because the truth hurts. In their warped minds killing inconvenient "lower orders" simply makes good sense, and if they dare to fight back then they're "filthy turrists'".

Both great sci-fi movies, along with They Live and Gattaca

How about this classic? (full movie)

I remember watching that the first time around. Not bad for 1970's Hollywood SF.

Hmmm, still don't get it.

The "Boulderites", seems to me would love most of those qualities except perhaps the violent mental midgets part. I never did get the impression that mental midget was descriptive of any characters in the movie except the steroid pumped military grey headed buzz cut guy who gets it in the end.

I didn't cheer or boo, but my eyes did well up to my surprise.

I guess I'm a sensitive 90's guy, no not really.

The movie reminded me of Oppenheimer's "The State", and the concept of Universal History, which essentially is one band of humans slaughtering each other over the course of time, I mean WTF is wrong with the humans !?

i've never seen it.

The Replicants are artificial humans created by the Tyrell Corporation, an instellar corporation (sound familiar?). Even though they are human, they have zero rights and can be killed at will. The replicants don't like this, of course, and become violent.

The replicants also have animal DNA, racoon, turtle, wolf, shark, snake.

At the end Roy Batty, the last relicant alive (they only live two years) is holding a white dove in his hand (which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit) and when he dies it flies into the sky, pointing out he has a soul.

Most people did not get it, but Harrison Ford's character (Rick Deckard) is also a replicant, although he doesn't realize it until the end of the movie.

It's an amazing film and has turned into a cult classic.

I sense a disturbance in the farce. Much gnashing will ensue.

I liked Avatar too, but Cameron borrowed heavily from other sci-fi authors. I see Clifford T Simak's "The City" and Alan Dean Foster's "Midworld" in particular.

Avatar was a great movie. I didn't think I would like it but I was pleasantly surprised.
