Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

MORE

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

In recent days, she emailed supporters:

"2012 is perhaps a turning point for the United States."

"The upcoming elections loom as one of the most important in my lifetime," she warned. "I'm very often asked to speak about our current foreign policy and the challenges that lie before us. However, we, as a country, are not going to be able to address any of those international challenges unless we first get our domestic house in order."

This is the point in the campaign where a lot of trial balloons are going up. I wouldn't take all of this too seriously. I don't think they are going to be testing the waters with their first choice or choices right off the bat, and the woman in question is doing her best to dampen expectations.

True.

Politicians are good at floating balloons to see which one goes the highest. Some are made of lead and never get off the ground.

A betting person ignores how high they fly, rather how far they travel. Rice perhaps might be straight up this week and straight down next week.

I would give odds Rice will be VP mate.

Well, I think Rice is in it for the long haul, the political hacks dare not sharpen their knives on her. Most will play it cool and tamp down the rhetoric.

If it were not for Bush connection, Rice would be an ideal candidate for VP.

Is she a neo con??? Is she an Israel firster? Is she for more war???

Yes, and so are the rest that run this country.

If you vote, you are part of the system.

Rice would complement the Mormon's ticket in a lot of ways, but Smirk left a bad taste in the mouths of many, left and right, and her association with him is a big negative.

But I am interested to know what makes you think that Rice is more qualified than Romney or Hillary. She's an academic, which they ain't, but they almost never get near the levers of real power anyway.

Secretary of State again?

Rice would complement the Mormon's ticket in a lot of ways, but Smirk left a bad taste in the mouths of many, left and right, and her association with him is a big negative.

When deciding the odds, one must weigh her past with Bush II and Jeb Bush interest in the future.

This is where future interests are influencing present elections.

The Bush cabal will do anything to make another Bush President. Rice owes Bush cabal big time, just as did Colin Powell. Powell was eased out when he was no longer of use and he switched to Obama.

Perhaps Rice sees the chance to switch horses, to Oromney and a win would position her with a chance to be President.

There is another present and future clinker to add, that is the Pauls. Rand has visions of living in the White House. Right now it seems the Pauls are just milling around, waiting till the dust settles before committing themselves.

Qualified????

Academics aside, Rice has always been unflappable, no serious gaffes, ALWAYS IN TOTAL SELF CONTROL. That is the huge plus side.

The negative side,Jew inside and out.

HOWEVER, BEING BLACK, IF SHE BECAME PRESIDENT, I SUSPECT JEWS WOULD GET THE BACK OF HER HAND.

at this point, it's hard for me to imagine this nation is going to last that long. simple arithmetic proves that it's economically unsustainable.

Thanks for the amendment.

We should remember though that the jackass is a noble and useful beast of burden and is of infinitely greater benefit to mankind than the animals that currently lord it over us.
