The hand of God is in every trial, trouble, and disappointment

(James Smith)

Your trials, though many, painful, and tedious--are but proofs of your heavenly Father's love! They are sent in mercy--to convince you that this poor world is not your rest. Your Father's wisdom chose them, His love sent them, and His mercy will sanctify them to you!

Tried believer--are you looking to Jesus? He can hush the storm, and still the tempest. He is always near in trouble. Is your eye fixed upon Him? Does your heart repose on His tender love and faithful Word?

Do you recognize your heavenly Father's hand in your trials? His hand is in them, whether you see it or not. He sends, bounds, and removes them--as He wisely desires. And it has often comforted the saint to realize that the hand of God is in every trial, trouble, and disappointment.

Do you sweetly acquiescence in God's will, in faith that whatever He permits in our life, is right and best for you?

"He is the LORD; let Him do what is good in His eyes!" 1 Samuel 3:18

The aged believer's cordial

(James Smith, "The Aged Believer's Cordial")

"Hearken unto Me! I have cared for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime--until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you!" Isaiah 46:3-4

This passage of Scripture is the aged believer's cordial. Let us look at the beautiful images employed.

God is our parent--a kind and tender-hearted parent. He is peculiarly attached to His people--they are dear to Him, precious in His sight. They are His portion. He prizes them above all creation. He is strong to sustain, to defend, and support them. His strong arm, tender heart, and watchful eye--are all employed for them--and especially so in old age.

The aged believer is as a child. He is weak. He feels exposed and defenseless. He is timid and fearful. But the Lord, as a tender parent, engages to take him up in the arms of His power--and carry him in the bosom of His love! Like a tender lamb in the shepherd's bosom, on a cold and frosty night, borne across a bleak and snow-covered wasteland--so the believer, in the winter of old age, shall be carried in the bosom of his God, across the bleak and cheerless desert of time.

God will carry him tenderly--hushing the weak one's fears. He will bear him carefully--so that nothing shall harm or hurt him. He will soothe him with gentle words, and encourage him with kind acts--until He safely introduces him at Home!

Dear aged Christian, you have nothing to fear! Your God says, "I will be your God throughout your lifetime--until your hair is white with age! I am your Father--your Friend--your solace--and your confidence! Look unto Me--even to old age, I will carry you. I will bear you up under all that you feel and fear. I will carry you through all that discourages or distresses you. I will deliver you from foes, fears, dangers, and death itself! Nothing shall by any means hurt you! My arm is strong enough--trust in it. My bosom is your resting-place--lean on it, lean hard! Do not be afraid . . . love dwells there, pity rules there, your name is engraved there! Trust me, I will never leave you nor forsake you!

"Hearken!" Believer, your God bids you to "hearken." His words are true and faithful. He speaks to banish your fears. He speaks to strengthen your faith. He speaks to comfort your poor drooping heart. He speaks to clothe your care-worn brow, with the light of hope, with the cheerfulness which confidence imparts.

Hearken to Him--not to unbelief! Hearken to Him--not to carnal reason! Hearken Him--not to Satan! Hearken to Him--not to erroneous men! Hearken, it is your Savior who speaks; it is the Guide of your youth who addresses you; it is your tender Parent who seeks to cheer your heart.

"As one whom his mother comforts"--so does your God comfort you. He is near you--near you every moment; He will carry you--carry you every step; He will deliver you--deliver you from every danger, trouble, and foe!

Christian, be separate—dwell alone! Do not seek the society of the world. [ Don't you know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? If you have any sympathies with that world —if it contains attractions for you—if God and the things of God are not enough for you—there is something wrong! Do not love the world! Do not seek its friendship. Seek the things above. Beware of the fascinations of worldly company, the spells which gaiety throws over the young. Stand your ground. Be not whirled away into the tossing current of gay society on any pretext whatever!

Church of the living God, be separate—dwell alone! That is your security, your strength, your influence. Let the world see that you are not of it; that you do not need it. It needs you—but you do not need it. And you will serve it best by dwelling alone. Not by coldness, sourness, distance; but by love, congeniality, gentleness, patience, by all acts of benevolence and words of peace. These are things which are only to be found by 'dwelling alone.'

"...When Jesus told Pilate that His Kingdom was not of the “world” we see one of five different Greek words found in the Biblical text which have all been translated into the word “world”.

The word was kosmos, and it is defined in Strong's Concordance as an “orderly arrangement” and in another Greek concordances it is defined as “an apt and harmonious arrangement or constitution, order, government.”5

The word kosmos in the Greek and Roman view at the time, “... meant originally the discipline of an army, and next the ordered constitution of a state.”6 The word came from the Greek “komizo” meaning “to care for, take care of, provide for” or “carry off what is one’s own.” Kosmos did not mean planet, inhabitable place, or age.

Jesus was not saying that His kingdom was not on this planet nor that it was not at hand in spirit and truth.

He was simply telling Pontius Pilate, who was seated as a ruling judge of a Roman court,7 that Jesus Kingdom was not a part of Pilate's constitution, order, government or state and Pilate had no jurisdiction to judge Jesus as king of the kingdom God had given him.8

Evidently, this Procurator of Rome had already agreed9 that Jesus was the rightful “King of the citizens of Judea,” and would proclaim it so on an official epigraph written in three languages and nailed to the cross.

Everyone who accepted Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah, the king was cast out of the government of the Pharisees.10 The Pharisees by denouncing Christ and claiming no king but Caesar had abandoned the Kingdom of God and had entered the jurisdiction of Rome....

Saul was the first elected king when the people “rejected” God. When he forced the people to contribute to his government Samuel called it foolishness and prophesied that his kingdom would fall.24 When David numbered the young men for a draft to support the army it was called a sin, from which he later repented.25

When the kings set up a central government treasury, formed a standing professional army, and began to pass laws that returned the people to the bondage of Egypt they were all going against the will of God.26

The people of Judea had gone back into the bondage of Egypt where the government could force the people to pay at least a 20% income tax to the government,27 there was a central treasury or bank, and all the land and cattle were owned by government suffrage. Jesus came to change all that and did for those who would seek His ways. He set all the people free who would accept the responsibility and duties of His government of God and live by faith, hope and charity and the perfect law of liberty.

Under Abraham's leadership and faith the people set up charitable altars to maintain societies by free will offerings which liberated them from the degrading subjections of the city states. When Moses returned to Egypt in hope of setting the people free they still had to pay their tale of bricks, but but provide their own straw.28 The “tale of bricks” and “straw” are metaphors for their tax obligation owed Pharaoh's government and the social benefits they normally would have provided.

“The real destroyers of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.” 29

Throughout history these forms of government of power which offer benefits to one class of citizen at the expense of another have eventually failed under growing avarice, apathy, and covetous greed of the people and their leaders. Without liberty of choice, diligence dies and sloth reigns as king.30 The prophets of God have always preached systems of self government dependent upon the daily practice of virtue where the right to choose, which all men are endowed with by God, remains intact.

Jesus and John the Baptist were teaching that same message. They agreed that you may owe Caesar and Herod because you have gone under their authority, but everyone needed to learn to do without their tainted benefits if they were going to be free. In truth, the Bible is a “do's and don't” guide book to freedom under God, the kingdom of God. It has forever warned of what will lead us back into the bondage of men.......

Understanding the difference between the nature of the government that God intended for men and the governments often instituted by men is essential in understanding the elements of that gospel of the kingdom and the elements of the world.23.....

...the Greek word translated “traditions” can actually mean “ordinances” in accordance with the “elements” of the “constitutional order” of men which is often translated “world” but means the “state”....."

highly recommend the entire article: http://www.hisholychurch.net/stu...t/kingdomofheaven12st.pdf

see "even the elements of the earth shall be burned up"...

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

He was talking about destroying the Old World Order and setting up His New World Order under God the Father. So when we talk about the New World Order, we are really talking about an attempt to return to the Old World Order under the works of the devil that Christ came to destroy: Genesis 3:15.

Exactly correct. And, Pilate washed his hands of the error.

oh wait. i just remembered what Paul said...

Acts 13:46

Then Paul and Barnabus grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first, but since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles." .... gospel, and thus shown that they were not suited to enter into everlasting life. bible.cc/acts/13-46.htm

maybe that tells us something.

this is from near-death.com re: judiasm -

Jewish Afterlife Beliefs

The core of Judaism is a covenant relationship - which is both a contractual agreement and a "marriage" of love - between Yahweh and his chosen people. Because Judaism is built around a relationship involving agreements and promises in this life, the afterlife is less essential for Judaism than for other world religions. It would, in fact, be relatively easy to imagine Judaism without any afterlife beliefs whatsoever. Because of the non-centrality of the afterlife for Judaism, this tradition has been able to entertain a wide variety of different afterlife notions throughout its history, more so than perhaps any other religion.

Lots more at source, but the above was enough for me.

Religion of "self" -

I don't pretend to have all of the answers (though I might have at another time in my life) ... this I do know - the universe is beyond my capacity to comprehend but what I am able to witness is of a divine design ... and I am grateful for it.
