Have you taken time to read the entire "God Damn America" sermon? Or just listen to sound bites, it was an hour long sermon that detailed America's many lies that it tells to it's citizens. Covering lies against the blacks, Japanese Americans, and white America.
Taken out of context, God Damn The United States by Rev Wright does sound traitorous.
But what was Reverend Wright discussing? (The parentheses comments are mine - Timothy)
"Confusing God and Government"
"Where governments lie, God does not lie. Where governments change, God does not
change."Wright states.
"[The United States] government lied about their belief that all men were created equal. The
truth is they believed that all white men were created equal. The truth is they did not even
believe that white women were created equal, in creation nor civilization. The government had
to pass an amendment to the Constitution to get white women the vote.
(Yes We Did - we gave women the right to vote)
"The government lied about Pearl Harbor too. They knew the Japanese were going to attack.
Governments lie.
(Yes We Did - no where in naval history do aircraft carriers (4) go out of the harbor
unprotected, FDR wasn't willing to risk his aircraft carriers being sunk)
The government lied about the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. They wanted that resolution to get us in
the Vietnam War. Governments lie.
(The attack on American Naval vessels in the Tonkin Gulf was actually instigated by CIA gunboats attacking North Vietnam and leading the VN Navy towards the U.S. Navy)
"The government lied about the Tuskegee experiment. They purposely infected African
American men with syphilis. Governments lie.
(Yes We Did - we infected, or allowed to remain infected, blacks with syphillis)
The government lied about bombing Cambodia and Richard Nixon stood in front of the camera,
'Let me make myself perfectly clear...' Governments lie.
(I'd shouldn't include NIXON, we know tricky Dick never tells a lie. Our ground troops had maps where the Vietnam border was shifted over twenty five miles, so many never knew they were in Cambodia.)
The government lied about the drugs for arms Contra scheme orchestrated by Oliver North,
and then the government pardoned all the perpetrators so they could get better jobs in the
government. Governments lie....
"And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian
descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations.
(But hey, we allow those Indians to have casinos, so it isn't all bad).
When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese descent fairly, she failed. She put them in
internment prison camps.
When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in
chains, the government put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in
cotton field, put them in inferior schools, put them in substandard housing, put them in
scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal
protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education and locked
them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness.
The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and
then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, not God Bless America. God damn
America — that's in the Bible — for killing innocent people.
God damn America, for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America, as long as
she tries to act like she is God, and she is supreme. The United States government has failed
the vast majority of her citizens of African descent.."
And Rev Wright failed to touch on why Ivy League White Boys start wars, and have the black man
fight the war. Look at draft-dodger, Ivy Leaguer Mitt Romney, knocked on doors in France,
while black men were shot and killed so his Daddy's auto plant could make money in the
defense industry.
So if you take the Rev Wright's whole sermon in context, and not splice out one or two lines -
maybe Rev Wright had a point. Maybe the White Ivy Leaguers (the United States government for
all purposes) is out to trampled the black race in America.
(Maybe his choice of words were wrong, maybe he should have said Damn these Ivy League educated white men who think more of profits than humanity. But when the Ivy League white boys are usually the ruling elite of the gov't, and the gov't represents America, he chose a phrase that was accurate, just a little insensitive.) Reply
