Setting aside the spook issue, what's Petraeus' claim to fame stateside? So he helped in the rebuild of Iraq and making nice with some tribal leaders in Afghanistan - big deal - he has zero non-military experience in this nation. He has not held office as a Governor or an elected rep in Congress. I don't get why Romney would choose Petraeus except for the fact that Romney thinks he will lose in November anyways so who cares.

Oh yeah - I forgot about Petraeus being appt'd head of the CIA - what a laugh - Petaeus is an ambitious climber with whichever party that will give him a leg up - almost as bad an appt as Panetta being ensconced as Secty of Defense. smirk Panetta was a Republican before he tested the winds and became a Dem. Perfect. Another one with no political principles or values, just political ambition.

You honestly believe that the Nazi IRS would not have hunted down Romney come hell or high water with their usual ungodly zeal if they suspected that Romney had held back even a dime from their greedy paws? Give me a friggin' break. Greasy Harry was blowing gigantic fart balls when he alleged that Romney had not paid his income taxes.

Your lack of common sense- which is a common trait among Dimwit voters -is the reason why we have an affirmative action dummy in the WH bringing this nation to ruin.

And btw, why is the onus on Romney to produce his income tax returns when the ForeignerInChief has his academic, health, and hospital record of LIVE Birth under lock and key? Zero is sitting in office - he is one who should be producing records for public scrutiny per established custom of previous Presidents and VPs.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 7, 2012 (Reuters) — CIA director General David Petraeus has no plans to become a candidate for vice president or run for any other elected office, a spokesman for the spy chief said on Tuesday.

"Director Petraeus feels very privileged to be able to continue to serve our country in his current position, and, as he has stated clearly numerous times before, he will not seek elected office," CIA spokesman Todd Ebitz told Reuters.

The agency issued the statement in response to rumors which appear to have originated with a report on the widely read website Drudgereport.com, run by Internet gossip Matt Drudge.

Drudge claimed in an "exclusive" report that President Barack Obama this week "whispered to a top fundraiser" that he believed presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney wanted to name Petraeus, a highly decorated former combat commander, as his running mate.

The report said that Romney had secretly met with Petraeus in New Hampshire, an assertion which government officials said was false.

In July, Drudge, who is known to have high-level contacts in the conservative movement and the Republican Party, reported that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was "near the top" of Romney's list of vice presidential prospects. That report was also strongly denied.

And citizenship documentation on his Mexican-born father. Or maybe some unknown number of the Senate will just specially declare Mitt a natural born citizen like they did for McCain but not others of similar circumstances.

Not that I like McCain - quite the opposite - but McCain's situation bears no resemblance whatsoever to that of the foreignerinchief. McCain was born to a US Naval Officer and his US citizen wife who were assigned to a US military installation in the Panama Canal Zone, tho not US proper, a US military base is as good as it gets for US territory facsimile situation.

Zero was born in Kenya to a Kenyan citizen, his father. Not only that but later Zero had an Indonesian passport per his step-father and traveled on that foreign country's passport as a student. The Hawaii birth certificate is bullsh*t. I don't believe Zero was born here for a millisecond.

Romney was born in Detroit. He is a "natural born" US citizen to 2 US citizen parents. What's your problem with Romney?

The president's campaign started swinging at the potential Republican running mates this week while urging home-state Democrats to chime in about the shortcomings that — as emails to donors and supporters put it — "Americans need to know." The pre-emptive strikes are an effort to define a possible No. 2 in a negative light and reflect a sense that time is precious to sway opinion in a stubbornly close presidential race dashing quickly toward November.

Tim Pawlenty? The former Minnesota governor is a fee-raiser whose record "is painful for the middle-class families who lived under his leadership," the Obama campaign argues.

Rob Portman? The Ohio senator is "one of the architects of the top-down Bush budget" that the Obama team blames for "crashing our economy."

Marco Rubio? The rookie Florida senator has "led the way on almost every extreme position Mitt Romney has embraced," according to the missive that seeks examples of "the good, the bad and ugly" of Rubio.

And Chris Christie? There's "no lack of material to work with" about the pugnacious New Jersey governor.

It's not just the Obama operation that's trying to tar the Republicans. Local Democratic officials in contested states aren't letting visits by the would-be vice presidents go unchecked. In conference calls they try to draw attention to what they say are the Republicans' flaws, then quickly deliver biting assessments when one of them campaigns in a battleground state. Independent groups sympathetic to Obama are piling on as well.

American Bridge 21st Century, a Washington-based super PAC, has already dumped a combined 1,651 unflattering pages of so-called opposition research on Pawlenty, Portman and Rubio as well as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan. The five electronic briefing books, including two released Wednesday, rake over the Republicans' voting records, proposals, public statements and slipups. The rundowns are so detailed that a politician's taste for expensive wine is even noted in one of the books.

American Bridge President Rodell Mollineau said the group started months ago compiling the information — much of it's drawn from media reports, public records and speeches — and decided against waiting to trickle out the juiciest bits when the vice presidential pick becomes known.

"You don't want to start too soon, but you don't want to be in a situation where there's 80 days until the election and everything is being jammed in so much that things are being lost," Mollineau said.

The findings are likely to buttress criticism from top Democrats, feed into TV ads and show up as part of fall campaign mailings. The group also has video trackers in key areas eager to capture possible miscues or shifting positions.

Romney's campaign criticized Obama for seeking the critiques. They are little more than "negative smear campaigns against the possible GOP vice presidential nominees," Ohio-based spokesman Chris Maloney said.

Natalie Baur, a confidante of Portman, went so far as to issue a rebuttal to fellow supporters defending Portman as a problem-solver. The message called the Obama push for feedback on him a "desperate" move and a sign that "the president's friends are more interested in playing political games than working together to create jobs, fix the economy and pass a budget."

Romney has said little about whom he favors or when the choice will come, although it's expected well before the Aug. 27 start of the Republican National Convention.

So far, Vice President Joe Biden has had the No. 2 space all to himself, which has given the Obama campaign a second high-level voice to tour the country, raise money and hammer their fall rival. Obama's aides deny he has a preference, but they admit they're watching closely for Romney's decision.

"Any way you cut it, whomever they pick, we'd much rather have Vice President Biden on our side, campaigning across the country, in the debates, out there standing up for the president, than any of the motley crew that Mitt Romney is choosing between," Obama campaign spokesman Jen Psaki said Wednesday.

I explained at Post #7 of your 4um topic, Ron Paul: A notable omission from the list of speakers at the 2012 RNC, that Romney being born here doesn't equate to natural born citizenship. Because his father was a Governor and ran for President isn't proof that he was an American citizen. Globalists have long been trying to internationalize the office of our Presidency, spanning a century or more with their stealth coup-trickeries to do so. I suspect they're trying again to make it so neither party has a qualified nominee for the office, like they did in the 2008 election.

On McCain, I believe one intent of our Founders (as to the Article II, Section 1 natural born citizen requirement in the Constitution for Presidential office) was to do what they could to deter military excursions abroad and births on foriegn soil thereof which could compromise citizenship as well as allegiance. Here are references on why McCain was not qualified as a natural born citizen, despite whatever number of the Senate declared unilaterally that he was:

United States nationality law

The law contains one other section of historical note, concerning the Panama Canal Zone and the nation of Panama. In 8 U.S.C. § 1403, the law states that anyone born in the Canal Zone or in Panama itself, on or after February 26, 1904, to a mother and/or father who is a United States citizen, was "declared" to be a United States citizen.

That means a citizen declared by statute, not a natural born citizen

theobamafile.com

A citizen "by statute" is any person born of US citizen parent(s) outside the United States -- think John McCain -- in this case, there is no foreign entanglement via parentage BUT there is a foreign entanglement via birthplace

Edited for spelling.

Why are you bringing up McCain and Romney's father?

Mitt Romney is not either one of those aforementioned politicians.

According to the latest pronouncement on what constitutes "natural born" - since the Constitution does not define it and the Supreme Court has not ruled on it - the common agreed upon descripter is that natural born means being born in the USA or a territory under America's jurisdiction/control.

End of story.

Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan - it does not matter whether his parents were space aliens - it matters that he popped out of his Mom in Detroit, Michigan.

That's why the TeleprompterInChief went to great lengths to try to faux prove that he popped out of his Mom in Hawaii.

I've been bringing up the McCain citizenship status issue since his run for the Presidency and have been questioning Romney's and his father's here since long before encountering you at this forum. But, a recap for you:

Shoonra commented that the CIA might help Romney find his tax returns and I commented with words to the effect that they might also be able to help him locate missing documentation on his father's citizenship status, as it concerns his own. Then you showed up and here we are.

On the rest of your post, the Constitution isn't a dictionary for the convenience of the willfully uninformed. Terms in it had established meanings when it was written. Vattel's Law of Nations is a reference our Founders were familiar with at the time on the issue of natural born citizens or not that you could research on the subject -- or do a 4um search for previous discussions here on the subject, many of which have extensive research and material posted within them for clarification. You clearly have a blurry concept of any distinctions between various citizenship status in this country but I assure you that there are agencies of government plural whose job it is to distinguish between them.

Oh really? And what a fabulous job these agencies and govt plural have done with assessing the Kenyan's natural born citizenship. I feel I have gotten my taxpayer money's worth, yes siree.

Oddly enough, I have not read Obama's name come up in your discussion regarding natural born citizenship - indeed, the most glaring example of a foreign interloper in the WH gets a pass from you.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Please stop being willfully uninformed and blurry about Barry Hussein Soetero's "big lie."

I'm getting the impression that you're just looking for an argument, scrapper, but I'm not your enemy on the Obama issue of natural born citizenship status. There are many a posts by me roundabout here on that subject going quite a ways back. I am concerned about the concerted and repeated attempts spanning a century or more to globalize the office of America's Presidency and others too, regardless of Party lables -- whether the stealth coup tactics stem from Obama's camp, Romney's and his father's during his candidacy, McCain's, Goldwater's, Chief Justice and Presidential candidate Hughes, Chester A. Arthur's, and whatever other such stunt-pullers have also attempted unqualified access to our offices -- and you are fixated on Obama as a partisan issue. Wherever he was born matters somewhat less to disqualify him than the fact that his father was Kenyan, not an American. You shouldn't object on that, as it simplifies the matter much. In closing, I don't think I've gotten my taxpayer money's worth either from the gov agencies whose job it is to distinguish between categories of citizenship status and follow through with enforcement when they should; as in Obama's case, Romney's, and McCain's, as well as others. On that, I think we can agree, if you're of a mind to do so.

P.S. Santorum and Romney's considered Vice Presidential candidate prospects, Rubio and Jindal, should all have been disqualified as runners because they are also not eligible for the offices as natural born citizens. Just so you know that the issue of manuevers to internationalize the Executive Branch is pervasive and really much bigger than political Party, Romney, McCain, or Obama.

Just so you know that the issue of manuevers to internationalize the Executive Branch is pervasive and really much bigger than political Party, Romney, McCain, or Obama.

I don't doubt what you say. But I think that Obama has been the primary beneficiary of that effort. Romney and McCain were both "natural born" based on the intent of the Founding Fathers. The Founding Fathers' included the requirement of the President being "natural born" - tho they did not specifically define the phrase at the time - to make sure the President did not have dual loyalties. The Supreme Court subsequently made decisions on related citizenship matters that colored the modern day interpretation of what "natural born" might mean. You have taken one interpretation of what "natural born" might require ( the father must be a US born citizen).

The readers' responses in the Federalist blog link below are informative because they cite cases that challenge the idea that the place of birth of the father is the defining characteristic of what it means to be "natural born." There is no question that the fathers of McCain and Romney were both US citizens, having their allegiance and loyalties only to America - McCain's father was a US Naval officer and Romney's father George, tho born in Mexico where his parents had run to for purposes of escaping religious persecution ( sound familiar?) was the child of 2 US citizens ( who never renounced their US citizenship) born in Utah and who specifically chose US citizenship for their son, George. In those days Mexico did not allow dual citizenship. The Romney Family fled back to the USA in 1912 taking George with them.

http://www.chron.com/news/articl...ican-heritage-2742503.php

snip

"A two-term Michigan governor, George Romney faced questions about his eligibility to run for president in 1968 because he wasn't born in the United States. Yet, George was born a U.S. citizen, not Mexican, because his parents were U.S. citizens. And in those days, Mexico didn't grant dual citizenship so the parents had to choose one country or the other. Mitt Romney has said neither his father nor his grandparents spoke Spanish.
