Did you know that playing at home can increase your testosterone level? Weve all heard of an athlete as having a home field advantage when playing in front of their boisterous fans but most of us assumed that it was because of the support of friendly fans (not necessarily if youre a Toronto Maple Leaf). However, research published in the American Journal of Human Biology has determined that athletes who are victorious in front of their own home crowd have a higher level of circulating testosterone following the game when compared to a win on enemy turf. In this study, scientists measured the level of male hormone in Midget A hockey players (classification based on age not size) before and after games that were won either on home ice or away and apparently the level of testosterone was over twice as high after a local victory. Unfortunately, neither the researchers nor the kids coach, Mr. Ben Johnson, were able to explain what caused the boost in steroid levels
