In the 80s, I used to party with some Naval Flight Surgeons at AMA conventions. When I inquired if the Navy noted any male/female difference in the ability to "pull Gs", I was told women pilots can handle nearly twice the G- force a man can, both for positive and negative G-forces. Navy tried to correct for body mass and still came up with same result. It was not happy.
Twice? If memory serves, to be fighter pilots they need to pull 9g's without blacking out. Women cannot pull 18 g's. Or maybe I'm missing something here. But if they can pull more then they can pull more. I suspect at higher G-forces the sex differential might be less severe. My thoughts on why, it might be related to childbirth. At birth, a woman's circulatory system goes through dramatic changes combined with significant blood loss and it must cope within seconds to minutes and maybe this ability confers a survival edge at a time when brain circulation must be maintained under stress. That's just supposition though.
