Title: Ron Paul Still Mum As His Son Endorses Paul Ryan

The plot thickens for supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul.

His son, Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, has endorsed Wisconsin Republican Congressman Paul Ryan as the vice presidential nominee, while Ron Paul has stayed mum not only about Ryan, but about endorsing presumptive GOP presidential nomine Mitt Romney.

Rand Paul, a favorite of the conservative Tea Party, issued a statement saying that Ryan's controversial budget plan, which has become a big issue in the presidential race, is a serious attempt to control federal spending and lower the deficit, two areas where Rand Paul says President Barack Obama has fallen woefully short.

[Ken Walsh: Ron Paul's Efforts to Make Impact at GOP Convention Faltering]

"The pick of Paul Ryan solidifies the Republican ticket's commitment to taking on the pressing issues like the deficit, entitlement reform and tax reform," Rand Paul told Business Insider. "Congressman Ryan's values and commitment to fixing our fiscal mess stands in stark contrast to Vice President Biden—and presents a clear choice to the American people."

The endorsement represents an effort by Senator Paul to present a united front behind the Romney-Ryan ticket, even though Paul has criticized the budget plan that the Wisconsin Rep. promoted as chairman of the House Budget Committee. Paul said it didn't go far enough in cutting the deficit or reducing defense spending.

Rand Paul earlier endorsed Romney, the former Massachusetts governor. The senator will be a featured speaker at the Republican National Convention in Tampa later this month.

But his father, Ron, a congressman from Texas with libertarian views, is still in the presidential race. He has acknowledged that he can't win the GOP nomination, but he has not endorsed Romney and is still trying to have an impact on the party platform. His supporters also want him to speak at the convention, but his influence appears to be fading. He is, for example, having difficulty persuading the Republican National Committee to seat the delagates his supporters say they won at state level conventions.

The article is a lot more about Rand than Ron, and all they have to say about Ron is what he hasn't done -- big news, that is. The title they chose is designed to make it look like Ron isn't doing his part for the "cause". Plus they chose a semi-goofy looking photo of him to paste to the article.

I vaguely suspect Rand might have been hoping for the VP spot as a reward for undercutting his dear old dad. That hasn't happened (yet! Ryan is such a FUBAR that it is barely possible that Romney will have an Eagleton moment and make a last minute replacement in his VP choice). Now that Ryan's got it, Rand might be a LOT quieter about his support for Romney.

Rand is now the darling of the zio-cons.

Ron is only a fond memory whose ideas/ideals will live on.

They can't be any more crooked than they are. They cheat and then after Ron Paul wins despite that, they challenge it and get the "rules" committee to change the rules and throw out the Ron Paul delegates. They have assaulted Ron Paul supporters, turned off the lights, tried to close off a room and block them out, and ignored and changed the rules when Ron Paul happened to be winning. They apparently want a real revolution instead of political one. They just might get that too. Ron Paul supporters never give up! We got too much at stake to give up.

God is always good!

I can't figure Rand out. He is so blessed to have such a father. Just about everybody expected more from him than this in politics. If this is all he has to offer, he should have kept his optical practice and stayed out of politics. We don't need any more yes men in Washington D.C., there are plenty enough already.

God is always good!

God only knows how much he's spending to lose this race (to the bottom).

He has done some good things, so I think he may be well intentioned, but if so, he obviously doesn't have the fortitude his dad has. Maybe he lacks the "real world" experience in DC to handle things without so much freaking compromise. He doesn't understand how his dad earned the moniker "Dr. No". He thinks he knows what he is doing. Maybe he thinks he can do better than Ron by doing things another way.

Maybe he's pissed off at Ron's supporters for their reaction to his endorsing Muttons. Would he have any desire to promote freedom if he felt he was not appreciated?

I'd like to believe we'll still see good things coming from him, in spite of the disappointments.

The republicans have been so gung-ho barbaric both in their war policies and in their treatment of the candidacy of Ron Paul that, despite my profound desire to see Bammy gone in November, I doubt I'll be lured to go to the polls unless it's to vote third party.

A pox on their house.

Ron Paul cheated a lot of people in 2008.

In 2012 there was a rerun, just not as many fell for it.

There was a deal with Romney, we will have to wait for the goodies to be handed out to see who got what.

If Rand Paul comes away empty handed he will be out in two years.

Rather than being a force at the convention, Ron Paul has wilted into the background, a non person.

Randge...

From Pauls Trotski memo in 2008... His own words...Romney is out so we will throw in the towel. Four years later Romney is in and he throws in the towel, abandons his supporters.

" With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. .....

"Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them........But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican".....

The Pauls are REPUBLICANS,part and parcel of the system.

Given your disdain for the voters of this nation, why in god's holy name did you contribute to Art Robinson's campaign in 2010? As we both know the only purpose of a campaign contribution is so that candidate can 'get out the vote.?

why in god's holy name did you contribute to Art Robinson's campaign in 2010?

Really quite simple.

Robinson has never held any elected office.

A scientist by vocation, that holds disdain for professional politicians.

Paul on the other hand has held office for at least 22 years and has a proven track record of a part and parcel system republican.

As a libertarian Paul despises all government programs, however he will take a $200,000 a year retirement and insurance, all paid by the taxpayers.

Rons net worth a very few years ago was very low, now he is a multi millionaire, according to his last estimates.

In 2008 Rons campaign manager died a sudden death, no health insurance, the doctors and hospital were stuck with $400,000 debt. Ron said charity organizations should step in and pay. Ron on Jan. 1 will have BC/BS insurance mostly paid by taxpayers, medicare and a pension second to none.

Of course I notice. I have long said the voters of this country would be better served if they didn't vote for another person who had ever held an elected office. Unfortunately, the carrot gets more bigger and more tempting with each passing election.

I take your word for that, Lod, but my support of anyone or thing is necessarily done otherwise, not financially. The economical climate of this country is not sound enough to be spending my money on anything other than food, housing and doctor bills.

Hope you are enjoying good health.

No matter how one plans for olde age, they become either financial or physical burdens on someone. Children or the State.

Along the way, the vast majority pay their dues, so there is a leveling of burdens at the end.

Few go thru life with a free ride.

Allow me to sum it up in one word, hypocrisy.

And since our comments have equal weight, I'd appreciate it if you please challenge me on what I say to you directly, and not on some unspecified "behaviour." Your monetary support of a politician, despite your claim of being a political agnostic, is as we say In NYC, a pant load. Despite my youth (63 years) I have a wealth of street knowledge, along with the two useless degrees I earned in college. Personally, I value me street smarts more that you'll ever know. I KNOW you Cyni, I know your posts that were, and those that will be. I'm a PhD in Street Knowledge. It's a NYC thing. And don't play the class card on me. There comes a time when one has to readjust their view of any Pied Piper they are following.

I notice today the estimate for the non voters will be 90 million this year, up from 80 million four years ago.

Had Ron Paul run a viable third party this year, the trend would have been down, rather than up. More and more Americans are accepting the "no choice" view and withholding their vote.
