Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney just stole a page from Ron Paul's playbook.

At a town hall meeting in New Hampshire, the soon-to-be presidential nominee quickly and directly answered the question, “Isn't it time to audit the Federal Reserve?”

Romney answered, "Very plain and simple, the answer is yes. The Federal Reserve should be accountable. We should see what they're doing."

Paul's proposal already has won the support of Congress. Earlier this year, the House passed a bill to grant the Government Accountability Office (GAO) the power to conduct an audit. The bill has languished as Senate Democrats have kept it from an up-or-down vote.

A previous, and severely limited, GAO audit found the Fed had used extraordinary powers during in the aftermath of the financial mess. Unfortunately, as we can see from their conclusion, the usefulness of the audit was limited by its scope.

There is a caveat in Romney's new position though. Romney would maintain the Fed's independence and would not bring the Fed under any congressional control.

Romney later stated, “I don’t want to have Congress run the Fed, by the way. I want to keep it independent. There are very few groups that I would not want to give the keys to, one of them is Congress.”

It is safe to say that Romney won't suffer for it. Considering Congress' approval rating is in the single digits, he may actually see more support by clarifying his position. Adding control of complex monetary policy to the gridlocked and highly partisan political environment certainly wouldn't please voters.

Thanks to Paul's persistent push for accountability, the proposed audit is going to be an official Republican party platform. When asked if the Fed audit language would make it into the official Republican Party platform yesterday, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell confirmed the speculation.

"It calls for an audit of the Federal Reserve on an annual basis, but it is very specific that it has to be done in a way with appropriate flexibility that it does not impair the independence of the Federal Reserve... Many of us believe that more sunshine more accountability of the federal government, and state government for that matter, is a good idea."

Robamney has said a lot of things - and then flip-flopped. Who can believe a world he says?

Calling Ron Paul an isolationist is like calling your neighbor a hermit because he doesn't come over and break your window - unknown

I WITHDRAW MY CONSENT!
Any perceived compliance with unconstitutional “laws” or orders put forth by government employees is NOT recognition of their authority; it is simply the result of carefully calculated submission to an entity exhibiting superior firepower.

Why do people act like this policy position is going to stick, like he is pouring concrete over his words to make them permanent?

News flash, he is telling people what they want to hear...Amazing!

It really is isn't it? If you read other so-called conservative forums they are taking this guys words as if it's their holy gospel.

Here's an example. Forget the fact that a president doesn't have the authority to do what they are claiming Romney is going to do. The fact that they believe a guy who has a verifiable track record of governing as a liberal and flip-flopping on issues in order to make the group he is speaking with happy! Not to mention the fact that 90+% of incumbent Republicans are the same leftist filth who grew the government under Bush.

Then of course, notice there isn't a single word about Romney's support of perpetual war and the police state. None of that appears to matter to these brain dead pieces of human excrement.

Something else that would be funny if it weren't so serious is their take on Romney's tax positions. He wants to cut taxes while supporting the non-stop printing of money, more foreign invasion, and a greater implementation of the police state. he's robbing Peter to pay Paul. Even if he does manage to cut taxes, his support of QE 3, 4, 5, etc., etc., will make inflation, the well known "invisible tax" increase and his determination to invade more countries and increase the size of the police state is going to require the printing of more money because they have to pay for it somehow. It is highly unlikely that he will reduce spending. He will just move it from entitlements to defense and the police state.

You are right. It is amazing. Amazing how frigging stupid and unthinking the American people are.

The more I learn about Oromney, the more disenchanted I am getting with this whole charade. ;)
