A floor fight was narrowly avoided today on the floor of the Republican National Convention, as a battle over proposed rules and alternate delegations threatened to spark a mass rebellion by supports of Texas Congressman Ron Paul, as well as opponents of the proposed rules. The trouble began when Credentials Committee Chairman Mike Duncan took the stage to announce the results of several appeals requests to have three delegations controlled by Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s supporters seated at the convention. True to early reports, the convention seated two of them, but declined to seat the Maine delegation, instead choosing to seat an alternate delegation. The announcement that the Maine delegation would not be seated met with audible booing. The decision, however, passed the convention floor by a voice vote, despite the cacophonous roar of “No” from the Paul supporters. It was at this point that the real chaos started. Business Insider reports: Things just got a little awkward during the Republican National Convention, as Ron Paul supporters burst out into protest and shouted “point of order” in protesting the RNC’s determination not to seat Paul delegates from Maine. “Point of order! Seat them now! We’ve been robbed!” Paul supporters shouted. The Paul supporters’ chants were countered by Romney supporters chanting “U-S- A!” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, who looked rather bewildered throughout the entire ordeal, repeatedly asked for calm banging his gavel on the podium. Audio of the screaming was cut out by C-SPAN, but it continued unabated as the convention proceeded, with angry delegates shouting “No” to practically every motion following this decision. The shouting of “U-S-A” followed each outburst, a response that Tweeter robport suggested might have been coordinated: Timothy P Carney@TPCarney RT @robport: ND delegate just texted me saying they were instructed to chant "USA" to drown out dissent. #RNCpowergrab Coordinated or not, the problems did not stop after this first outburst. When Rules Committee Chairman John Sununu took the floor to ask for agreement to a set of rules – rules that have been slammed up and down by grassroots conservatives and conservative pundits for depriving activists of power – the makings of a real rebellion looked to be in the making. Those voting “Aye” screamed their approval. Boehner called for those opposing to yell. The response was arguably indistinguishable from that of the supporters. Nevertheless, Boehner ruled that “The Ayes have it” and all the rules went through. Despite early reports that minority reports had been sent to the Chair that would have offered an alternate vision of the rules, no minority reports were voted on. It was as though no opposition had ever existed. Boos and fury followed. The unseated Maine delegation walked out in disgust. Yet the convention went right on without any notice of those responses. Ron Paul himself hardly seems to be helping his own cause. In an appearance with Fox’s Cavuto, Paul said he had “no plans to endorse” the current Republican ticket, a move that makes him unique among the losing Presidential contenders. Paul’s response, via Mediaite: BONUS VIDEO:Ron Paul's Maine delegates erupt after getting barred from Republican convention. i cant verify if its true or not cause i wasn t there but one of my facebook friends was at the convention last night and said he saw security rerouting buses with ron paul delegates on it so far out of the way that they didn't even get to the floor to vote and he also says that he saw two buses full of ron paul delegates that didn't fall for it go into the assigned parking spaces and try too get into the convention and they were met with over a dozen security guards with nightsticks out telling them they could get back on the bus or get arrested for trespassing so they got back on the bus which if they wouldn't have they could have each made millions if they got arrested and beaten after trying to enter the convention as duly appointed delegates

The following statements were made by John Tate, campaign manager for Ron Paul, in an email yesterday: "Four years ago, the Republican Party simply handled our R3VOLUTION by slamming the door in our faces with hardly any consequences. Today, the GOP establishment can no longer afford to employ these tactics. Instead, they’ve adopted new ones. Properly elected Ron Paul delegates were stripped from us. And when a motion was made to amend the Credentials Committee Report, it was ignored. Morton Blackwell, a longtime conservative activist and RNC Rules Committee expert, found himself indefinitely detained – along with the rest of the Virginia delegation. The RNC’s bus driver responsible for transporting delegates somehow “got lost” for well over an hour until a critical Rules Committee meeting adjourned. Blackwell and the Virginia delegation were heading up the efforts to defeat new RNC rules proposed by Washington, D.C.-based insider attorneys. These rules are designed to turn the Republican Party into a top-down organization and strip power away from state parties and grassroots activists of every stripe. All efforts to vote down these onerous rules were ignored despite a clear split in the voice vote. Sadly, these rules will now govern the party."
In my lifetime it has always been a top-down organization, ruled by those with the largest collection of tiles. (tiles with pix of dead presidents on them) And the only thing more unthinkable than joining or voting with the DEMs is the suggestion to vote with (or join) a 3rd party. "Go ahead, throw your vote away!"___Kang the Drooling Alien and supporter of the two winged, one party system. No, disenfranchised Republicans have traditionally voted for the men selected by the "Kill em for Jesus" Zio war machine while clinging to the long dead values that were once held by all real Republicans. Any cognitive dissonance was simply suppressed, along with the desire to have sex "just for fun" when conception was unlikely, if not impossible. (This would explain how and why they remained Republican) "Sadly, we Log Cabin Pubs are closest to those values, and we're permitted to hold them because we're already sufficiently marginalized by our "orientations".__Ben Dover, Long Cabin Republican Spokesperthun, sword swallower and pole dancer.
Long past time to give the two party fraud the bird. I stayed R for Ron Paul, but that ship has now sailed. That party will not and cannot be saved from the seething depths of corruption into which it has fallen. It's time to put a fork in it, IMHO. A vote for Mittens is throwing away my vote. This "throw your vote away" threat is no longer effective......after Jr. and McCain/Palin. Let's call it what it is: BULLSHIT!
