Title: Epic Fail: The GOP’s Pitiful Attempt At A ‘Tribute’ To Ron Paul

Last night, we reported on the Republican National Convention’s tribute video for Rep. Ron Paul, full of praise for the outspoken sorta-libertarian who has done an exceptional amount to change the conversation in Washington. The video featured various Republicans heaping praise on the outgoing congressman for his consistency, his fiscal responsibility, and his dedication to never backing down on his principles.

Let me be a downer here and say: The GOP isn’t fooling anyone.

It’s clear the party is at least somewhat afraid of losing the Paulites to Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson (or Obama, or non-voting), and this “tribute” video — much like the party’s newfound “respect” for Paul — came off as an overproduced attempt to save face with a group the stodgy, fickle GOP has mistreated, ignored, and wished away over the last five years.

The video made frequent mention of Paul’s efforts to reduce the federal deficit and added boilerplate praise for his “fiscal responsibility” and “never back down”-ness, but it conveniently glossed over the many important issues that have made Paul so attractive to his followers — issues that the Republican Party seems entirely unwilling to incorporate into their platform.

The tribute did make slight nods to Paul’s belief in sound money and his fight to audit the Federal Reserve. But it ignored Paul’s fight to end GOP sacred cows like the costly and futile War on Drugs; his fight to protect civil liberties from executive overreach like the PATRIOT Act; and his battle against an unsustainable foreign policy of “maintaining empire” and playing World Police.

The video also neglected to mention just how Paul would like to cut the deficit.

Instead of the mainstream Republicans’ supposedly “radical” plans to cut from future spending growth, Paul wants to slash budgets left and right… especially the GOP’s sacred-cow national defense. He wants to end all corporate tax loopholes; something the GOP is reluctant to touch. He considers such “pro- business” tax manipulation to be synonymous with crony capitalism.

The GOP must have thought this video could placate Paul supporters enough to get their vote. Plenty of Republican officials expressed certainty that the Texas congressman will leave the convention fully endorsing the Romney/Ryan ticket. Despite Paul telling Fox’s Neil Cavuto that he has “no plans” to endorse, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said she is certain he will hop on the bandwagon.

But that’s just haughty. And wrong. Because until the party actually tries to change instead of occasionally throwing a superficial bone to Paul, then you can expect many of his supporters to maintain a firm position of “not voting for Romney.”

Want proof? Look to the little-reported fact that Paul’s delegates staged a walk-out immediately following the tribute video.

They walked out, and will likely continue to walk out, because the difference between Paul’s following and the GOP’s rank-and-file “Ew, it’s Romney, but we must support him” types is that the former truly believe in consistency and principles, and are wholly interested in maintaining it, while the latter seem blind in their belief that this Romney/Ryan ticket will somehow “save” the country while shutting out the the voices of actual change.

What happened to the hugs and smoochies all around?????

Something went amiss. That was apparent when Rand Paul went forward on knee pads. Why, what for???? To save his own skin in two years?????

Ron Paul need not have thrown his supporters under the bus and walked away from the convention with hat in hand.

Rons political strength in June was broader than in 2008, he could have demanded a pound of flesh BEFORE THE CONVENTION.

Instead Ron walked away, abandoned his supporters, demanded nothing, in fact disappeared.

In fact Ron Paul has gone neutral, something which was always possible, by adopting a stance of do no harm, do no good.

The shift of the Pauls away FROM THE FEDERAL RESERVE AT SUCH AN IMPORTANT TIME WAS AN INDICATOR THAT BEHIND THE SCENES FORCES WERE AT WORK.

If someone threatened your family and you knew they had not only the ability to do it, but would most certainly do it and get away with it if you did not do what they say, then what would you do? I think you are being a little too harsh on Ron Paul. One man can't save America anyway, but he has done a lot of good.

God is always good!

What I would do is of no consequence, rather it is what Ron Paul has in fact done that is under consideration.

In a four year period, Ron has walked away twice from a Presidential bid. In a near quarter century in the House, the Fed has always been his target. All of a sudden, he changes horses in mid stream and walks away.

Rons strength was broad this time, he could have been a force at the convention, he walked away... Prior intent? Threats?

Rand ran for cover because he saw the movement was down the drain as a convention force and IT WAS.

You are playing a broken record, Cyni. And a tiresome one at that. Many people just enjoy wallowing in hopelessness, and want someone to blame for it. You have successfully found that someone.

Ron Paul is one man, and **only** one man. He's done far more good than all the rest of congress, but you paint it like he's the worst of the lot. Honestly, your going on and on about him at every opportunity disgusts me.

If he were in the form you say, he'd have never got into Congress. He'd have never left the Libertarian Party, his name would be no more well known than Harry Browne's. And he'd have just as many supporters as Harry Browne. How would that be better than what we have today?

Ron Paul is a unique combination of idealism and pragmatism. He wants Constitutional government, but he also knows which battles should be fought and which ones shouldn't. Your criticism is that he hasn't fought battles that couldn't be won. He's right to have left those battles to the libertarians.

Ron has been neutral at the convention, so far he has gained nothing, had no influence.

Ron Paul has walked away from three battles, left his supporters with nothing. He swears undying allegiance to the republican party and their place in the system.

Remember Paul ran first as a term limits person, then cast that aside and stayed nearly a quarter century.

Pretty much one of the boys.

One could as easily say he's a CONGRESSMAN, which says the same thing. But if he weren't in congress, he'd be a nobody, and if he weren't a Republican, he wouldn't be a congressman, and he'd also be a nobody, just like you and me. He's as much a Republican as an American. He has to be one because that's what the rules made by the R's and D's say. So he's played the game by their rules and they don't like that one bit.

Ron has been neutral at the convention, so far he has gained nothing, had no influence.

He was offered the chance to give a speech so long as it was preapproved by Romney and/or the GOP establishment. He refused as it wouldn't then be his speech. What the hell you do you expect of him?

When a man takes untold millions of dollars from supporters and then walks away three times, I for one am no longer willing to follow that Pied Piper.

It boils down to this, Ron has the message, he is NOT the needed messenger.

Third party route was open and needed, Ron went with the system.

The shift of the Pauls away FROM THE FEDERAL RESERVE AT SUCH AN IMPORTANT TIME WAS AN INDICATOR THAT BEHIND THE SCENES FORCES WERE AT WORK.

You betcha.

The way his delegates were muscled around shows that our enemies are in control. They are ruthless and bereft of any honesty or spirit of generosity. There is no where for Ron to go but away. He was arm wrestled to the ground in an absolutely undignified way. The video tribute was a little wall paper to cover up the blood stains on the wall.

I've never seen a performance more lame, by the way, then Wednesday night's session. When I was a kid, Republican conventions were HUGE. This one looked chintzy and tasteless. The convention hall and fixtures looked cheap. Every act rang out in false notes. First, they rolled out a "color guard" of chubby boy scouts in BLACK uniforms who ushered in some Sikh swami in a turban to do the ju ju. I could tell that his LONG benediction wasn't a Christian prayer because he ended it with "Thank you" instead of "Amen."

The national anthem was done by a nice looking blonde girl who does the Star Spangled Banner with every jimcrack and glissando imaginable. Our young folks must think that our national anthem was originally written as a Negro spiritual. The whole performance that evening was punctuated by rock music from a band that looked like it just crawled in from the last call at the nearest pub. They had a lead singer who danced to some schlock acid rock, jumping around the stage like a monkey in a pair of over tight pants.

Then, in addition to the kinda thin Paul video tribute, we got a speech by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that was so boring that I heard "Oh God" from my wife while I was out of the room getting a much needed drink. Rand Paul came out too to talk about what? All I remember is that he went on an on about immigration. His grand dad was an immigrant. All his friends are immigrants. In fact, everybody is an immigrant. I am on drink number two when they truck in the McPain. He predictably launched into the only aria in his repertoire. It begins with endless war and ends with Israel. And just to make it plain whom this night was a tribute to, there was a video celebration of the Mormon front and center. The first thing we saw in this production was Mitt's face and an Israeli flag. There was an American flag in there somewhere too. I swear there was.

This will be the end of any viewing of political stuff in this household this political season. And an end to anything the Republican have to offer.

If their convention says anything at all about them, it is that there is something wrong with these people.

Sold out?

Good heavens.

I think Ron should have gone third party, if not that, he should have stayed in to the bitter end, gone to the convention, taken a pound of flesh, OR WALKED OUT, TAKING HIS SUPPORTERS WITH HIM.

As is, his supporters are going home empty handed.

Perot at least made a statement, with twenty million votes.

This year non voters will reach an all time high, an indication that many are tired of playing the game.

In the back of my mind, there has been a gnawing sensation, ever since 2008.

Whether people wish to consider, believe or deny, there is a distinct possibility that Ron Paul has been an active part of the system for quite some time. Over and over he has declared he is a republican til the day he dies.

What more do people want. A sellout twice in four years should disabuse most of his supporters of the idea he is worth following.

An empire never comes into being without a core elite that subscribes to an enabling set of doctrines that empower that elite and sustain the growth of imperium.

Can you name an empire that did not develop that way root and branch?

The Bush cabal in 2016, a positive if Obongo wins this year, a possible if Oromney wins and stumbles. Note Bush tribe has taken no part in this current affair, in fact I would dare say they would like to see Obongo win, that would give them an open playing field in 2016.

Recall back in 2008, the big splash for Obongo by the Eisenhower and Nixon families???

Nothing this time for Obongo, but also no splash for Romney. Politics is a dirty business.

I see no one stepping forth to fill Pauls shoes. The one party system is now in total control.

Back to controlling the opposition.

Take the John Birch society as an example.

Founded and funded by the Rockefellers so they would know who the true conservatives were in this country.

That, or they are actually hostile shapeshifting aliens in human form.

Can't think of many other explanations for their behavior.

RON PAUL RENOUNCES GOP AS KEYNESIANS, ‘NOT HIS PARTY’- INDEPENDENT RUN IMMINENT?

Well at least we'd have someone to vote for who has at least a chance of winning. I doubt many out there other than actual Ron Paul supporters have ever heard of Gary Johnson, being that they're too lazy or stupid to do any sort of research on their own.

But Ron Paul has name recognition, and he WOULD have the ability to capture a large share of the vote if he ran.

We'll have to see if this story verifies. (Could be bunk, I dunno.)

Then we'll have to see if RP does announce a third party run.

The Romney/Obama split among likely voters would give the winner a razor thin margin, if the vote were held today.

If RP were to run and Romney were to lose to Obama, Ron would have to buy an island off Matagorda Bay and dig himself a bunker.

This story is starting to get some legs. I'd post it, but it ain't quite news yet, just speculation. There is addition a rumor going around that RP will make a special announcement on the Jay Leno show.

Is Ron Paul Officially Dumping The Republican Party?

On Aug. 31, Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul officially washed his hands of the GOP, just as the 2012 Republican convention comes to a close. Citing the party being no different than the Democrats in fiscal spending and irresponsibility, the Texas Congressman denounced fully that the GOP in its current form was no longer his.

*REP. PAUL SAYS BOTH PARTIES KEYNESIANS, GOP ‘NOT HIS PARTY’
*REP. PAUL SAYS FED PRICE FIXING
*REP. PAUL SAYS FED FLOODING MARKET WITH MONEY – Zerohedge via Bloomberg

The irony of today’s announcement by Congressman Paul is that it was the Republican party who first rejected him, long before Paul’s decision to wash his hands of the GOP. During the primary campaign season, multiple Republican committees in states across the country used rule changes and local law enforcement to ensure the Texas Congressman did not succeed in winning primaries. Couple this with the fraudulent attempt to keep Ron Paul from being nominated at the Convention by stealing his delegates in Maine, and in other states, and it is no surprise that the soon to retire Congressman has had enough of the corrupt political party he supported for more than 30 years.

Congressman Paul’s assessment of the Republican party being no different than the Democrats when it comes to government spending and Keynesian economic doctrine is easily exemplified in Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential candidate, Paul Ryan. As Chairman of the House budget committee, Ryan backed the raising of the debt ceiling in August of last year, and voted for TARP and the Obama stimulus packages which has increased the national debt by more than $2 trillion. His recent speech on cutting spending is actually just a proposal to cut future increases in spending, and not remove much from the over $1.4 trillion annual deficit.

angel Definition, Synonyms from Answers.com

Azrael (as Azraa-eel) is named as the angel of death in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture and the final Guru of the Sikhs.[57]

Angels are typically depicted in Mormon art as having no wings based on a quote from Joseph Smith ("An angel of God never has wings").

I want to thank you for sucking it up and watching last night's debacle

You're welcome.

I missed your reply & yes it was horrible.

Near everything in our public life these days seems strangely distorted and alien to me. Even HS football games with the bag and body searches and the strange insertion of vaguely political messages in the half-time entertainment.

It's making a hermit out of me.
