MY HUSBAND HAD HERNIA SURGERY IN APRIL 98. FOR THE LAST 2/3 MONTHS HE HAS HAD A LOT OF PAIN AND BURNING IN THE LOWER PART OF HIS ABDOMINAL I WAS WONDERING IF THIS COULD BE SOME OF THE SYMPTONS? Lisa

I had the hernia patch put in 2002. Since then I have had unexplained blood loss, transfusins, severe abdominal problems that led to the diagnosis of Colitis, then serious heart palpitations when I eat and the list goes on. I kept telling ALL the docs that there was something wrong in my abdomen. It felt like I had lots of scar tissue inside. I saw the ad on TV for the recall. Called my surgeon and sure enough, I have the recalled patch! Now, I go in next week, for a consutation and then surgery. My e-mail is LeezaAnn63@hotmail.com I wuld love to hear from anybody else that has had their patch removed.

I had inguinal hernia surgery in jan of 06 & i still have pain. No 2 days are the same. According to the oper report it was a PHS mesh that was used.. Does anyone have any info on this? It is making my life miserable living with this

I have all the same symptoms, blood im my stool at least 3 to 4 times a month. Heart palpitations so my doctor took me off the allergy meds I was on, severe pain in my abdomen, ob/gyn said all's fine. The doctor that did my surgery refuses to see me, because as the nurse put it I was late to one appointment. I called another doctor and the nurse said they can't see me either. My doctor said I have a pulled muscle but the pain feels like it is deeper than that. I cannot work out anymore due to the pain and I am on antibiotics all the time for infections and fever. My doctor said it's stress at work. I quit my job and I am still sick. Some days I can barely get out of bed. Another doctor said that I am depressed. I am not depressed, that much I know. The pain is real and not due to depression. My surgery was in August 2005. I have been sick since. I have no energy and it's not due to my age either. 30 is not old!!!! Amy S

1 I had a medium kugel patch put in for a hernia repair in 2001, sence then I have had digestive problems, and chronic constipation that lead to my large Intestines(Colon)being removed. I have to eat soft mushy foods, like baby food. It has completely changed my life, causing depression, and other problems as well. Seems as though the medium patch should be recalled as well because it causes the same damage as the large one's. Janice Bembry

I had the Gore-Tex Dual Mesh used in a ventral hernia repair in 2004. I've had nothing but problems with it since.I've had numerous places drained after mesh got infected, been hospitalized and also had places drained under local anesthetic in doctor's office several times. I no longer see that doctor since he has relocated to another state. Now I've been to new doctor who has operated twice and I have permanent drainage after he has removed some mesh twice. He says if he operates again I may end up wearing a "bag" because some of my bowel may be caught up in the mesh that's left in me. I have to change the dressing on my abdoman at least twice a day and it has a terrible odor that I can smell all the time. If you know of anything that is being done about this, please let me know. Sincerely, Janice S Bembry

i had a hernia repair done with a mesh in sept. 2005. A month later i complain to the surgeon that i had a lot of abdominal pain i was told that my stomach may be to heavy. Well i thought he was wrong, so i seek another doctor and he told me too just used a heating pad and take some motrin. Of course that did'nt work since then i suffer with loose bowels, scar tissue, lot of bacterial infections, and fluid in pelvic area wihtout a clue why? Daniel

I have been having complications due to my Hernia surgery. I called my surgeons office and spoke to one of the nurses. She informed me that the only way that they could tell if my mesh is causing my medical problems is by them reopening where the repair was done. I believe the mesh I have is not one of the ones that was recalled. It is the 3DP Ethecon Patch by Johnson and Johnson. If anyone has had problems with this patch, please let me know. I want to know how many people have had the same problems as me with this patch and maybe the FDA will look at this and investigate to see if it should also be recalled. If anyone knows the procedures to start an investigation through the FDA to get a mesh looked at for defects, please post the information. Thanks.

Too bad. When hernias pass a certain size they CANNOT be surgically closed without something bridging the gap, hence mesh. Mesh, however, is a foreign object in the human body and the human body ALWAYS rejects foreign objects. Surgeons have searched for the perfect mesh since the dawn of time. Most mesh problems occur years post surgery and there is no way to predict who will suffer.

The motto of this? Do not ignore hernias until you are forced by their size to give in. Deal with them early and in time and avoid mesh altogether.

I am not trying to shift any blame here to patients with mesh. But as they say "A stitch in time saves nine." and this is terribly true with hernias. It is unfortunately human nature to avoid a medical proceedure until it becomes too late for a simpler proceedure. I am a living example of this, I had 2 emergency surgeries simply because I would not stop working long enough to deal with the problem.

due to extreme disrespect for the medical community and their profit based operating system, I self treated something going on in abdomen for more than a year, the discomfort was easily adjusted with diet and lifestyle and workload pretty much self-regulated due to an intellegent boss I worked for.

I had no clue what it was. (enter laughter here) What I find significant in hindsight is that it was controllable without inteferring with assigned duties in full time office job, while working for a human with a brain and heart.

6 months in with a new boss, who is pretty much a POS that ignored all requests for understanding anything beyond the bottom line that must increase every month forever, this discomfort dropped all the way down into something which sent me to urgent med, to scare a PA there into giving money back and referral to surgeon.

The patch they put in seemed to work well and within a few months was stronger than I had been in years. Not sure what it is made of but will check now due to this posting because thanks to another pushy boss, this thing has now failed, am back to same place I was when self-adjusting before.

Would likely be helpful financially if there's some proof out there that the patch material is bad somehow, though at moment, I blame failure on stupid employer + hungry employee (moi) making a foolish choice to push too far.

am coming back to edit due to a very odd thing which is happening, never experienced this before when breaking something for an employer, the guy actually gives a damn, bringing me meals ... no reason to, I can't sue him ... he's actually apologized for pushing so hard ...

let me get this straight, you want this and have the power to do it, yet you let that other guy decide if you should? yep - why? cause the book told me to ... who wrote the book? well, he did ... the guy telling you what to do, wrote the book telling you to let him run your life? yes ... say, you want to buy a bridge?

I think non-mesh hernia repairs also break down. Best to heed advice to avoid heavy lifting stress on that area...don't go testing your lifting limits.
