Gustavus Myers painstakingly documented the early, never before documented history of the Supreme Court and how it not only differed from state courts that protected the Lilliputians from the robber barons, but how the Court willfully and with malice aforethought preempted the states' power to limit the well connected swindlers mischief. Although not an easy read having been written in 19th century English, it's fascinating to learn how early land grubbers circumvented the King's limits on accrual of vast estates intended for settlers, and even the laws that prevented the swindling of land from Indians. And, through it all we learn that even the first Chief Justice Of The United States and author of at least one of The Federalist Papers John Jay, as well as early governors, judges and justices were indebted to others (including sea captains who were slavers) that promised to enrich jurists in exchange for favorable rulings. Because this book report is not going to count against my final grade I can write that, "If we don't copy and store this book before a handful of souls get excited and GOOGLE denies future access to it, it will surely go down the memory hole." Poster Comment: This is a good place for an excerpt from Fahrenheit 451: "Over the course of several decades (with the starting point being after the American Civil War), populations grew and people embraced new media, sports, and a quickening pace of life. Books were ruthlessly abridged and degraded to accommodate a shorter attention span. Later, minorities and other special-interest groups began criticizing books for their controversial content while other critics bashed authors for making people feel inferior by publishing works that no one could comprehend. Books became blander and blander due to censorship measures, and eventually, books stopped selling and authors were either locked away in insane asylums or gave up their profession and lived in exile. The only reading material that the society now accepts are captionless comics, three-dimensional sex magazines, trade magazines, and scripts used during the interactive plays on the parlor walls. To get rid of the books from the past (and their copies), the government implemented a program using the firemen to burn the books (now that houses were being rebuilt to be fire-resistant) and placate the masses....." puppy growls: "Bark 'em if they can't take a joke. The growing awareness that something is amiss (which is well known in the rest of the semi literate world but slow to catch on in the good old, "US of A") will be met with an escalation of force. So, it's a race to the cutoff date of 12/21/12 if you believe that scary prediction of the Mayan Elders. If it isn't the end then young folks who survive the continuous waves of population reduction will either be hardened like tempered steel or collapse from witnessing things unimagined.... Hopefully someone will cache this book on a hard drive for future archaeologists to decipher and interpret-no doubt as a worshipful tribute to the nascent wisdom that was to become the supreme tribunal of the 12 former Corporate Zones Of Rockefeller, before it was destroyed by a failed philosophy of altruistic compassion for the non productive poor ....
