Well, that was...different. ;-)

I certainly thought so. lol They were very nice folks. The second they found out I was an American Christian they broke into that tune. Quite a pleasant surprise.

Hopefully the Chinese don't get sucked into the Christmas scam (except making crap for US) like the rest of the known world.

I was in SamsClub recently and the place was already awash with Christmas-crap for the deluded.

It was really sad to witness.

If the Soul Singers have a hat, throw a couple bucks in and send me the bill here, especially if they're 501(c)(3) singers.

Most Chinese street performers will be insulted if you drop money in the can or hat. It's not their custom. They'll not have a clue why you're doing that. They also don't allow tipping. When you tip a Chinese person you're telling them that they have a sucky job that doesn't pay enough so you're going to help them. It's very demeaning in their eyes.

China is the fastest growing Christian country in the world so Christmas is indeed making inroads here , both the true spirit of Christmas and the economic opportunism aspects of it. It's sad indeed in some ways.

Well, it's better than having them jumping off roofs to their death; I'd think.

As the Bible teaches about pride, to me, false pride is even more stupid and ill-advised.

As I learned long ago, whenever someone wanted to gift me something (whether I wanted or needed it or not), the correct response was a simple, "Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness, I really appreciate it." End of that story.

I agree with you completely. That is what I teach my Chinese students when they ask me about tipping. Remember Lod the Chinese know next to nothing of the Bible. That is why they are China and we are America. Virtually the whole Chinese system is built upon false pride. In China style trumps substance.
