Marijuana Legalization, If It Passes In States, Will Incite Conflict With Feds, Says Ex Obama Weed Warrior

With measures to legalize pot leading in Washington and Colorado polls, one of the president's former senior drug policy advisers is predicting the initiatives will incite a war between the feds and the states.

"Once these states actually try to implement these laws, we will see an effort by the feds to shut it down," Kevin A. Sabet told NBC News in a report published Sunday. "We can only guess now what exactly that would look like. But the recent U.S. attorney actions against medical marijuana portends an aggressive effort to stop state-sponsored growing and selling at the outset."

Sabet, who served as a senior advisor in Obama's Office of National Drug Control Policy, is referring to amendments in three states that would, for the first time, legalize marijuana for recreational use. Amendment 64 in Colorado, which would allow the state to regulate marijuana like alcohol, has garnered majority support. Washington's Initiative 502, which seeks to regulate and tax marijuana production and distribution in that state, is polling at 55 percent. A similar measure on the ballot in Oregon is not expected to pass.

Proponents of the legislation say they don't foresee federal agents interfering in states that have legalized cannabis, citing the federal government's silence on the issue this election cycle.

Back in 2010, Attorney General Eric Holder announced the U.S. government would "vigorously enforce" federal laws against marijuana if California voters elected to legalize the drug, but this year federal agents have declined to discuss the issue. "We're not going to speculate on the outcome of the ballot initiative," Colorado U.S. attorney's spokesman Jeff Dorschner told The Denver Post, "other than to say it will not change our enforcement approach."

Alison Holcomb, campaign director for Washington's Initiative 502, told NBC News she thinks that's significant. "They didn't just copy and paste what they did and said in 2010," she said. "We feel pretty good about that."

In an email to HuffPost, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition spokesman Tom Angell expanded on that view.

"If one or two states make history by legalizing marijuana, it is going to be very difficult politically for whoever sits in the Oval Office to get away with making crushing the will of voters one of the first acts of their term," he said. "As we have seen with medical marijuana, federal opposition does nothing to stop voters from passing laws in even more states."

What's the point of accruing political influence if a corporation (like Dupont) can't crush opposition of mere people?

How can reefa be legal and industrial hemp, outlawed?

Big Petrochem cringes at the thought of hemp replacing their products.

Even the former mind controlled sex slave Cathy O'Brien said that she could have any drug she wanted except pot. Now, why was that, I wonder?

I've cynically revised my childhood love of America. I now believe that it was lost long ago, perhaps from the beginning and that the shadow govt has just been waiting for the right moment to announce it.

The very idea that we'd have a Dept Of Homeland Security is so offensive to me (and others I guess) that I can only assume that it was chosen to underscore the bitter truth, that America is no longer ours, assuming it ever was.

If that G_D forsaken title isn't enough, our state's entire congressional delegation now refuses to meet the public in person, opting for the absurdly named "telephone town hall". They see no need to apologize while betting (correctly most likely) that their incumbency power will insulate them against citizen retaliation.

When it comes to voting, Delawareans just do what they're told. This reaffirms my belief that Red Beckman was correct when he told me that the Great Western Migration (Horace Greeley) did indeed leave the weaker, "Tories and a Monarch, if you please" genes behind.

Of course this state also has many former Southerners (like me but not really) who came here for union shop wages, but they've never made any trouble. Some are the first of their kin to live in houses that weren't fabbed up from pressed board and downed BURMA SHAVE signs.

And, the run for president is like the Special Olympics. One must be handicapped and therefore controllable to make it past the first round draft pick. Normal, honest, hard working folks with no skeletons are ineligible because they may have some ideas that don't fit the long term sleeper agenda.

And, like the American Revolution we can expect the majority of people to remain meekly on the sidelines except when snitching on their neighbors to win extra gas ration coupons.

What an incredible metaphor! I want to quote that. LOL.

John Howard says: There are 4 schools of economics:
Marxism: steal everything
Keynesianism: steal by counterfeiting whenever needed
Chicago school (Milton Friedman): steal by counterfeiting at a steady, predictable rate
Austrians: don't steal

Democrats don't mind war as long as they can have big government. Republicans don't mind big government as long as they can have war.

DAWGs are indeed too trusting, unlike many cats or even warier critters such as white tail deer or various wild turkey species. ("A deer thinks a man with a gun is a stump. A turkey thinks a stump is a man with a gun.")

But, even a sleeping DAWG knows if he's been tripped over, or if he's been kicked.

Untaxed pot smokers at that.

The HORRORS!

I tried to sip some quality, un-bonded corn made by an established bootlegger. It was sealed like a gallon of milk in a plastic jug, and with the $5 transportation costs (my share of the gas from KY) it was $25.

But, I felt so guilty when I tasted that sweet contraband, thinking about all of the revenoors who paid the ultimate price to protect that tax, a tax that even George Washington was willing to field an army of US Marshals to defend that I damn near choked on it.

I just can't imagine what would happen to me if I dared to smoke, eat or vaporize untaxed cannabis.

*TAXES ARE GOOD FOR US!*

I consider it a privilege to pay "my fair share" of taxes, especially the now middle class air tax that was once a tax on corporate profits. All of my employers were happy to deduct the taxes from my paychecks instead of having to pay their corporate taxes, the way the law was mistakenly written and interpreted until 1942. In fact an unsigned computer-generated letter from the IRS was all the due process that was required to seize my property and send it on to the Federal Reserve, which then funded the fractional banking that made some Americans banking royalty.

It's the tax laws that now enrich generations of Indians and Pakistanis through purchases and later inter-family transfers of gas stations and doughnut franchises. And, someday when flaming funeral pyres have polluted all of our waterways and feces our farm fields I'll know that I helped bring these new and improved Americans to our shores.

Perhaps someday when they have the numbers they can revitalize an old Indian tradition, the Thuggee Cult, thereby enriching our nation with that cruelly suppressed tradition.

Good for you as corporate tax rates have disappeared in the last thirty years.

George The Stupider actually proposed that the income tax be made a wage withholding tax only and that corporations be relieved of any responsibility other than collecting the tax from their employees.

He never failed to top his previous verbal gaffes, but when he suggested that the corporate privilege tax be laid on workers only, workers who owe no tax for the right to work, well, I decided then that I'm never going to love that guy.

I can only hope that someday when he's at the ranch chatting with his Uncle Satan (in the form of a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake) that ol' "Unkie" will impulsively decide that George would be a welcome addition in Hell. Perhaps a quick, heavily laden bite will resort in an emergency chopper transport to the best hospital in Texas, and then the specialists (flown in to save George) will work tirelessly but in vain to thwart Satan's plans for his favorite nephew.

Moving George into the family business headquarters may actually improve the standards on both sides of the evil spiritual plane.
