Lewis "Scooter" Libby III's nearly simultaneous ascent to internationally celebrated trash-lit novelist possibly have escaped my attention, even ever so briefly? Waiting out, um, Erection Day among the Whispering Pines of my natal state is one thing, but I apologize for what's tantamount to criminal neglect as a columnist on my part, for momentarily ignoring for a single nanosecond the unfortunately nicknamed fellow's joining the celebrated ranks of the Right-Wing Failed-Smut Writers League. This is a luridly credentialed conservative clique, among which previously numbered the likes of Mrs. Darth Vader, excuse me, Lynne Cheney – literary lesbianism, adulterous vice presidential liaisons ending in death by cardiac arrest, etc. – as well as, reportedly, Bill O'Reilly, Newt Gingrich, John Ehrlichman, William Safire, William F. Buckley, F. Gordon Liddy, and others of their hypocritical obscene ilk. Will you possibly forgive me for my lapse, neglecting this sudden surge of pseudo-patriotic pornography?
