If you are confused about this, perhaps you can check out, for yourself, the importance of a proper name.... and the proper use of that name! For you men, the next time you feel ardent towards your wife/girl friend, simply address her with the name of your last (known to her) girl friend. That might put things in perspective for you. Of course, not to slight the fair sex, you ladies should try the same thing with your husband/boy friend. I do not know any of you personally, but I can assure you that you WILL get a reaction!! Malachi 1:6 (KJ21); A son honoreth his father, and a servant his master. If then I be a father, where is Mine honor? And if I be a master, where is the fear of Me? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, who despise My name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised Thy name? This was a common theme throughout the history of the Jews; the religious leaders did not teach what they had been instructed to teach, and because they were constantly chastised for this failure, they did come to despise our Father's given name; given to us by Him. Please read Matthew Chapter 23. Jesus was very clear as to what he thought of the religious leaders of his day. I have a copy of the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE. This Bible was given to me by a dear friend, who is no longer with us, so I treasure it, but I do not use it. Why? Perhaps this quote form that Bible will explain why. The Proper Name for God: To professing Christians, whether of conservative or liberal persuasion, the name of God is most significant and understandably so. It is inconceivable to think of spiritual matters without a proper designation for the Supreme Deity. Thus the most common name for deity is God, a translation of the original Elohim. The normal word for Master is Lord, a rendering of the Adonai. There is yet another name which is particularly assigned to God as His special or proper name, that is, the four letters YHWH. See Exocus 3 and Isaiah 42:8. This name has not been pronounced by the Jews because of revenence for for the great sacredness of the divine name. Therefore, it was consistently pronounced and translated LORD. The only exception to this translation of YHWH is when it occurs in immediate proximity to the word Lord, that is, Adonai. In that case it is regularly translated GOD in order to avoid confusion. It is known that for many years YHWH has been transliterated as Yahweh. No complete certainly attaches to this pronunciation. However, it is felt by many who are in touch with the laity of our churches that this name conveys no religious or spiritual overtones. It is strange, uncommon, and without sufficient religious and devotional background. No amount of scholarly debate can overcome this deficiency. Hence, it was decided to avoid the use of this name in the translation proper. Amazing, is it not, that the translators will admit that they change the Word of God, and people accept what they say without question. If you change the Truth, is it still the Truth? John 17:17; John 7:16-18 Deuteronomy 4:2 (LEB) You must not add to the word that I am commanding you, and you shall not take away from it in order to keep the commands of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you to observe. Deuteronomy 4:2 (ASV) Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of Jehovah your God which I command you. Deuteronomy 4:2 (KJ21) Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. A brief study of the word lord shows that it means simply master. It that something special? Not hardly. However, the divine name of our Heavenly Father IS something very special, according to His Word. Exodus 3:13-15 American Standard Version (ASV) 13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations. Exodus 3:13-15 Lexham English Bible (LEB) 13 But Moses said to God, Look, if I go to the Israelites[a] and I say to them, The God of your ancestors[b] has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is his name? then what shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I am that I am. And he said, So you must say to the Israelites,[c] I am sent me to you. 15 And God said again to Moses, So you must say to the Israelites,[d] Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,[e] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my remembrance from generation to generation. This is the first time in the Bible that our Heavenly Father introduced Himself to us children with His CHOSEN name. and He plainly said that this is our memorial, or remembrance, of Him forever. Since the four letters YHWH appear in the original Scriptures some thousands of times, we should begin to understand that this is a name that IS to be used and remembered. Using a name honors the person being named. If you do not truly understand this, just try calling your wife or husband by an unknown name for a few days. The lesson will shortly sink right in! On the other hand, we have another example in the Bible where a proper name has never been supplied, and that is for Satan. We do not know what his original name is. All we are given are two titles for him. Satan, meaning opposer or resistor, and Devil, or slanderer. Thus two titles, BUT NO PROPER NAME that he might not be honored on this earth. My original King James Bible uses the divine name in four locations. EX 6:3; PS 83:18; ISA 12:2; ISA 26:4. Why? Why not take it out completely, or, put it in correctly? I have never understood that and it is the primary reason I use more Bibles. I do not trust those who change the Truth. John 17:17 John 7:16-18 And especially when they admit that they do it to appeal to the masses. In other words, it is all about selling more copies, not about being true to His Word, and teaching correctly. It is extremely interesting what the translators of the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE said; "It is strange, uncommon, and without sufficient religious and devotional background." It is strange in that NO ONE else is ever allowed to use this name. It is unique to only ONE individual, our Heavenly Father. And it has no background for the people because they have never been taught what it truly means. Just been recovering from Corexit poisoning, and I'm FINALLY getting my hair back from all that Fukushima radiation. Even as I was bald and glowing in the dark, I was one handsome devil. Back in my xian days I once listened to a black radio preacher go on and on for a good half hour on using the Right And Proper Name for jesus. It was surreal how he tried to constantly rephrase the same silly point over and over again. But the sheep didn't stop with their "amens!" and their "praise jebus". Yeah, I could say some things that would surely piss off the OP by posting things straight out of the KJV that you wont hear in any sermon. But why do that? Other than for the sheer entertainment value, nothing good would come of it. I'll just say I'm damn glad I fought my way out of that crap. Better late than never. Even as a Satanist I have more patience with xians than someone that has never been programmed with xianity because I know how hard it can be to beat that programming. It's hard to hate someone for being what I once was. Unless they try and butt into my business, that is.
