In understanding the Bible, there are several key Scriptures that point the way. Perhaps the most important single Scripture is in the Book of Isaiah.

And this would make sense. In the New Testament, we are given two witnesses about the Book of Isaiah.

Luke 4:17 (KJ21) And there was delivered unto Him (JESUS) the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

I do get tired of those who claim to worship Jesus, but who refuse to use the Old Testament. If it was good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me. Also, he was quoted more than 200 times from various books of the Old Testament. (For the above verse in Luke, see Isaiah 42:1)

Acts 8:30 21st Century King James Version (KJ21) And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Understandest thou what thou readest?”

Nothing is in the Bible by accident or by coincidence. Everything that is in the Bible was carefully planned to be there, as the Bible is a perfect book, from a perfect Almighty God. Deu 32:4 2 Timothy 3:16

We are given these witnesses to show us that ALL of the Bible is intended to be used, and was written to benefit us. But the Book of Isaiah was mentioned twice, rather than a witness being given about two different books. 2 Timothy 3:4,5

So what is there about the Book of Isaiah that is so important? First off, it is like a Bible in and of itself. This is also why we have a very complete copy of this book that is very, very old.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_scroll

The Isaiah Scroll, designated 1Qlsa and also known as the Great Isaiah Scroll, was found in a cave near the Dead Sea (Qumran Cave 1) with six other scrolls by Bedouin shepherds in 1947, later known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. The scroll is written in Hebrew and contains the enire Book of Isaiah from beginning to end, apart from a few small damaged portions. It is the oldest complete copy of the Book of Isaiah known, being 1100 years older than the Leningrad Codex,[1] and the most complete scroll out of the 220 found at Qumran. Pieces of the Isaiah Scroll have been carbon-14 dated at least four times, giving calibrated date ranges between 335-324 BC and 202-107 BC; there have also been numerous paleographic and scribal dating studies placing the scroll around 150-100 BC.[2]

The scroll is written on 17 sheets of parchment. It is particularly large, being about 24 feet (730 cm) long and 11 inches (28 cm) high.[3] There are 54 columns of text.

NEVER doubt the power of our Heavenly Father. His Will is being done, and will be completed to His satisfaction in all things. A 3,000 year old copy of Isaiah was provided for us so that no one could claim that they were never informed. It is one of our most important witnesses in the Bible as to prophecy and accuracy in the New Testament. Isaiah 55:11 Matthew 7:21

Now, about that verse I mentioned.

Isaiah 48:17 (KJ21) Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord thy God who teacheth thee to profit, who leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

I do not much care for the word profit in this verse. However, most translations use this term, and it means the same thing, if you think it through. Here is a different way of saying the same thing.

Isaiah 48:17 (CEB) The Lord your redeemer, the holy one of Israel, proclaims: I am the Lord your God who teaches you for your own good, who leads you in the way you should go.

And yet a third, and better;

Isaiah 48:17 (NET) This is what the Lord, your protector, says, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you how to succeed, who leads you in the way you should go.

And a last, and best one;

Isaiah 48:17 (HCSB) This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says: I am Yahweh your God, who teaches you for your benefit, who leads you in the way you should go.

The word 'benefit' really conveys the true meaning of this verse. When you profit, there is a benefit, but it gives the sense that you are doing something for a different reason rather than solely to benefit.

Perhaps an illustration is called for here. There is a prayer that Jesus taught to us called the Our Father. See Matthew 6:9-11. For this illustration, look at verse 11;

Matthew 6:11 21st Century King James Version (KJ21) Give us this day our daily bread.

Interesting verse; see Matthew 6:25-34. But what does this mean? When you are ready to eat, do you pick up a knife and a fork, sit down at your table with an empty plate, look up at the heavens, and say, "OK, I'm ready! Give me the bread!"

No, of course not, because that does not work! What we are being shown in this verse is that our Heavenly Father is teaching us how to live, play and work in a manner that brings benefits to us, personally. His principles as taught to us in His Bible show us how to live in a manner that lessens the impact of Satan and His evil works on our life, NOW. It shows us what is truly important in our lives, and how to live cleanly, with great joy, while the world falls apart around us, and, those principles are particularly important now in these last days of Satan's rule over the earth.

And, as Bible knowledge grows in you, along with understanding, it gives you a great hope for the wonders of what we have been promised for the future. Much more about this as we go along.

This is also why that copy of Isaiah, as near to the time of the original writing as we can possibly have, is so important. Think about that, please, deeply.

Poster Comment:

Also of importance is Galatians 6:5, which applies directly to Isiah 48:17 and to every other principle in the Bible. Absolutely no one can do this for you. You, and only you, are directly responsible to our Heavenly Father for learning about Him, and for changing how you think and act. Unless, of course, you are already perfect......

Galatians 6:5 King James Version (KJV) For every man shall bear his own burden.

There is one more thing I want to mention, that is VERY important. You apply Isaiah 48:17 to EVERY verse that you read in the Bible, asking yourself; What is our Heavenly Father teaching me in this verse that benefits me in some way?

If you do not know or understand what that benefit is at that moment, then you need to do a deeper study of what you are learning.

The principle: Isaiah 48:17 applies to every verse in the Bible.

Isaiah 48:17 brings understanding to the Bible
