What's interesting re: that paragraph beginning "Upon ...," is that the temple was in fact rebuilt, perfectly, during 400's BC and the time of Ezra and Nehemiah. Yet, that rebuilding of the temple, and all that the fact that it no longer stands and what that all means, is conveniently leap-frogged a/o swept under the rug by the fundies and Zionists who need that "prophecy" to remain alive so that they can work over the ignoramuses today in our time. Working like a charm so far.

Has nothing to do w/ preterist or not. The claim that Israel needs to be protected stems from the "Left Behind" mentality fostered by the christian right, largely by the fundies, and originated w/ the CS Scofield "Study Bible" as a tool used by the Zios. It claims that a future temple will be built on the temple mount based on a prophecy contained in Ezekiel. Again, the problem with that theory is that they correspondingly offer absolutely no explanation as to why, and since that has already happened, factually, not in some "interpretation" of Scripture, but historically speaking, as to why that temple was in fact not the fulfillment of that particular prophecy. I see absolutely no reason why it is not. It meets all the criteria and fits into the old covenant model which was ultimately, and predictably, broken by the Jews, "God's people," not by The Living God himself. Much as R and D designations in politics, these eschatalogical views and "interpretations" serve as nothing more than dividers and are hostile to those attempting to get to the truth. Meanwhile, over in the New Testament, it cannot possibly be more clear that the "line of Abraham" is meant to be a spiritual line based on faith, not in the remotest a true geneological line rooted in geneology stemming from the actual line. This is what separates the true believers from the false believers today. In fact, I'm not sure how it's even possible to be a true believer if one cannot grasp that concept since it is purely by faith, having absolutely nothing to do with physical geneology or works based in "the law." Any belief that the literal physical line of Abraham has any meaning whatsoever in terms of salvation shoots the entire Gospel right in the foot.
