I wish I could post the video I saw, but I can no longer find it on Youtube.
I believe it was from the horrible WalMart 2008 Black Friday, when a store employee was trampled to death. The video showed the crowd surging against the glass front doors so hard that the doors came off their mountings and fell on top of a store employee. The crowd then stampeded in, even though they were walking on the glass doors that were pressing down the employee who was flat on the floor.
It is possible that this was not the notorious WalMart event, because newspaper reports said that employee fell and was trampled when he bent over to try to help up a pregnant woman who was being trampled. Both the employee and the unborn baby were killed. WalMart was fined a mere $7000 for violating safety regulations, and the employee's family had to sue and WalMart fought them in court for two years.
Considering the wreckage and injuries caused by such Black Friday "door busters", I would think that stores would either discourage this sort of craziness, or at least invest heavily in crowd control and security. But they don't.
And, of course, there was the instance last year when a woman used pepper spray to force her way to the big bargain. I am surprised that nobody has used a gun or a knife yet.
It is the event I am referring to, but not the particular video.
The video I had remembered was a store surveillance video showing the inside view of the front doors at the moment that the crowd pushed the doors off their mountings into the store, trapping a helpless employee under the glass doors.
I had thought the video was of the 2008 WalMart tragedy at Valley Stream NY but it may have been of some other craziness at another store.
I'm staying home and avoiding the shopping nightmares. The last time, I was in any dept store doing any holiday shopping was in 2000 and I wound up with an intense migraine so bad that I had to step out of line to vomit in the ladies room, wait to get back in line, just from the two hours of waiting in line and listening to babies wailing, kids throwing products around and misbehaving and rude shoppers. I said to myself, "From now on, I do my shopping online."
In fact, I'm waiting till next week to do grocery shopping till this Black Friday charade is over. I do gift shopping months in advance and online. You save money and gas and the stuff is mailed right to your door. Why go through the nightmare of standing in line to get that perfect gift. It's really stupid and I've been real fortunate enough to not experience the actual nightmares that have taken place in many of those stores I've seen posted on You Tube. I feel for those employees though.
