I just got a contact request on skype from someone who calls himself "William Banker." Here it is:

And nobody will come for the money and I don't want the money to go into the Government Account. That is why i am here to look for person that comes from his country to stand. So that the Fund can be transfer to you and as you receive the Fund you send for me to come to your country and invest the money. As far am the Account officer I will tell you what to do. know risk involve so dnt worry i will tell you how to contact the bank.and the fund will be transfer to you successfully

I'm using CraigsList to sell a set of MKZ wheels. About every day I get a similar bunch of crap about "Sold, please wait for instructions!"

I fell for it (to a point) and here's how it developed ----

Was informed a Cashiers Check would be OverNighted via FedEx, and would include extra for shipping.

Got it 2 days later, it was for nearly $4000, a bit over the $450 for the wheels :-) That alerted me! :-) I went to my bank to verify it and the teller said she'd deposit it. It would take about a week for the funds to be released to me. I didn't deposit it. I asked for the Head Teller, and explained the situation to her. She said she'd heard of this one, and during the wait time I'd be required to send the "unused" portion back to the sender, via certified check or M.O.

That would be MY money, the senders money wasn't mine yet. The bank was happy to do that if I wanted, but I was liable for the funds.

By the time I got home there was e-mail saying a Mistake had been made and he needed $3000 BACK. Please send TODAY as it was urgently needed.

These jokers really believe Americans are Stooopid! :-)

I just replied with the phone number for the regional FBI office. And noted please call with mailing instructions, my computer was down for rebuild. :-)

My wheels are still listed on Craigslist and I've now got over $10,000 in Cashiers Checks. They ARE 1st Class work, and would fool the average teller!

BTW, the FBI said they get complaints on this type scam all the time. Recommend I don't fall for it. :-) But they weren't interested in all the paperwork I'd accumulated, they had plenty.

That is indeed one of their common tricks and unfortunately fools a lot of people. Glad you didn't fall for it. Those folks would take your last nickel or even the last one your grandma had and think that because you were an American it served you right. Not that they would have any great fit of conscience to screw other folks but Americans seem to be on the top of their list.
