OAKS, Pa. (CBS) — A gun show in Montgomery County drew a huge crowd on Sunday, despite calls for stricter gun control after a shooting rampage at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

If gun control advocates were hoping the scale of death at Sandy Hook Elementary School would dampen enthusiasm for the purchase of guns, the line of people waiting to get in to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center was evidence to the contrary.

“It’s more crowded than it has been in the past.”

.

The crowd was diverse, there were even families with children, but none of the shoppers admitted to even a moment’s pause about guns after Friday’s mass murder in Connecticut. Terrible, they agreed, but unrelated to the shooter’s access to guns.

“There’s knives, hammers, baseball bats, all kinds of things have killed people,”  Crazy people get in cars and kill people. You don’t hear anything about restricting that.”

Gun enthusiasts know an event such as the Sandy Hook massacre is likely to bring calls for gun control, and they are armed with what have become familiar defenses.

“A rifle doesn’t kill people, people kill people. Crazy stuff is going to happen whether it is done with a gun or a car or anything.”

Oddly enough, Connecticut has relatively permissive gun laws - it permits handguns, it permits (even encourages) concealed carrying. Didn't deter this psycho.

I bet the gun shows will be extra-crowded for months to come because some people will make a point of stocking up in anticipation of stricter gun laws being adopted.

Of course not. The incident took place in a gun free zone. He knew no one would have a gun and everyone would be helpless and unable to stop him. Just what you and the rest of your ilk want for us all. I bet there were high-fives all around your office when you found out about this incident. Never let a crises go to waste!

Outstanding. The more the better.

I WITHDRAW MY CONSENT!
Any perceived compliance with unconstitutional “laws” or orders put forth by government employees is NOT recognition of their authority; it is simply the result of carefully calculated submission to an entity exhibiting superior firepower.

I am not real sure what would be the advantage of letting people inside the elementary school have guns. This guy simply massacred the teachers and kids in two classrooms. I am not sure if putting the guns in teachers' hands would work a net benefit; I've seen instances where the teachers were so frazzled by small children that it was a very good thing that they did not have any weapons close at hand. And, of course these kids could probably find a gun hidden somewhere in the classroom.

I know of a lot of schools for older children where they have to make a point of taking the weapons away from the kids because of instances of kid-on-kid homicide.

i think for the most part that you'd be hard pressed to find a public school teacher who WANTS to have guns and isnt terrified by the prospect. Plus most of them wouldnt know what to do with a gun and would probably let the kids get a hold of it and accidently kill someone., just like that idiot cop who accidently shot himself in front of a classroom full of kids.

Why is it ok for teachers to be armed in Israel to protect their charges but not here? Or is it your argument/position that all teachers should be disarmed and that no one but cops and military people should be armed?

I am not real sure what would be the advantage of letting people inside the elementary school have guns.

But men with guns will enter that school, it's the timing of their entry that you have a problem with. You support armed police responding to an active crime scene, 10 minutes in, 27 bodies later while opposing a proactive police deterrent, present at the scene before the body of the first victim hits the floor. Gotcha, and thanks for a close up look at the convoluted and dangerous mindset of a gun grabbing collectivist.

"I am not sure if putting the guns in teachers' hands would work a net benefit," etc.

You're missing the point. We have a Constitution to tell us what to do, so it doesn't matter what you think is best for everybody. And as long as there are scumballs like you that don't care what the Constitution says except when it suits you, we'll need guns to uphold it.
