Young Mr. Shapiro should not have agreed with that nutcase that semi-automatics were "assault weapons." Should have told him in no uncertain terms that average Americans don't have any assault weapons and can't get any without jumping through a lot of hoops, paying a fair-sized tax on them not to mention that machine guns are so expensive that they are just plain out of reach for most people. He should have also told the nutbar that it is not a question of need (about owning an AR-15 or whatever), it is a question of rights.

I thought that exact same thing too. But he's not a gun expert and lots of people think if they look like a military issue they're "assault" rifles, instead of whether they're full automatic.
