Title: If someone from the 50's suddenly materialized today, what would be the most difficult thing to explain to them?

I think 9/11 would be the most difficult thing to explain. They would see the towers being blown up and know that it was intentional and then have to wonder why everyone believes the planes and the fires caused a skyscraper to fall at close to free fall speed. They would then know that on average people are much less intelligent today then they were in the 1950s. It would very hard to explain how people got so dumb.

Yes, it is hard to believe how dumb some folks are these days. Very hard but it's a sad fact.
The most difficult thing to explain? Modern networked socialization... computers,phones,tvs,radio,net. And the untrustworthyness of the media. Back then people had a different trust in the printed word and radio and TV was damn near gospel. To say nothing about the black man in office. ___FIRE
Someone transplanted from the 1950s would be astonished at the change in race relations & civil rights, at the end of the Communist Menace and the rise of the Moslem Menace, a color TV, personal computers, even pocket calculators. They might be surprised that cigarettes are no longer tolerated indoors, that a pill provides reliable birth control, and that man has reached the moon. They might be surprised to learn that it was Richard Nixon, of all people, who surrendered Indochina to the Communists and who commenced diplomatic relations with Red China. They might be astonished at what is being shown on TV. The list can go on and on.
The thing that would surprise them the most is that Americans have been dumbed down to the point that they accept an unqualified foreigner as President of the country. They would never have thought it possible.
Being old enough to be politically aware at the time, I can assure you I would want to know when the mass insanity started and why, in hell, no one has done anything about it.
That's because we didn't have internet to check facts for ourselves. They were lying then too. They live among us, they breed and they vote. To rephrase the question; If a member of "The greatest generation appeared today.....? Shiiiiiiiit! They fell for Social Security, Withholding, gold confiscation,National Firearms Act of 1934, the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, WWII, the holocaust, terrorism for the creation of the Holy State of Israel, just off the top of my head. They proudly went on to Viet Nam, The Great Society, Blah, blah, blaaa. I propose he'd think he died and went to heaven, except for the part about the foreign black man as president, the threats to his SS check and a pack of Marlboro's costing $7.50 Fuck'em! “Anti-semitism is a disease–you catch it from Jews”–Edgar J. Ahhh. Unnecessary for the gentiles maybe. I can remember being glad when the draft ended.
