The most difficult thing to explain? Modern networked socialization... computers,phones,tvs,radio,net. And the untrustworthyness of the media. Back then people had a different trust in the printed word and radio and TV was damn near gospel. To say nothing about the black man in office.
That's because we didn't have internet to check facts for ourselves. They were lying then too.
