LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC)- A ‘Paycheck Fairness Act’ introduced in Congress last week would require employers to show pay disparity is related to job-performance and prohibit employer retaliation for sharing salary information with coworkers.

Senator Barbara A. Mikulski and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, both Democrats, said their legislation is aimed at closing the pay gap between men and women and would also address loopholes in the 1963 Equal Pay Act.

Currently, the law allows employers to sue or otherwise punish employees for sharing their salary information and women still make just 77 cents on their male counterpart’s dollar, according to Sen. Mikulski’s office.

I am so sick of hearing this BS statistic. If it were true, why doesn't some woman start a construction company, hire only women, and sell $200,000 houses for $154,00? Of course the cost of land and materials would have to be factored in, but I'm guessing most of the cost is labor.

Or would we soon be told that women have to pay more for lumber?

Agreed, but I think for the purposes of this article, let's just assume "employer retaliation" means an employer disciplining or terminating an employee for violating rules agreed upon as a condition of employment.

These people are f*****g crazy. You do not have a "right" to violate workplace policy unless the policy is illegal. Hell, why not require storekeepers to post the price they paid for each item, or require a company to provide a contact list of all their customers?

Agreed.

The employment law is bat shit crazy, and the so-called courts are mostly run by black feminist women who hate men, it is like a star chamber I have heard.

Given the First Amendment, it is ridiculous and outrageous that any employer has ever been allowed to bring a lawsuit against an employee for discussing his own salary with other employees

That is an actual quote from an LP regular. The entire thread goes on about how no one should be sued or something.

Employers suing employees? Why don't they just fire them?
