Armed vigilante militias are now patrolling towns in Mexico as a response to the governments failure to provide protection from criminal drug gangs. How far away is America from a similar situation?
Theyre keeping out the State and Federal Army & Police, and crime has plummeted.
Theres a lesson in there somewhere
Crime is way down in Ayutlafor the moment, at least. Residents say kidnapping ceased when the militias took charge. (Mauricio Palos for The Wall Street Journal)
Armed villagers at a checkpoint along the road into El Mezón, where the trials are taking place. (Mauricio Palos for The Wall Street Journal)
The fate of the accused will rest with the villagers, who will act as jury and judge. Militia leaders say the accused men and women wont be allowed lawyers. (Mauricio Palos for The Wall Street Journal)
Ranchers in Tecoanapa, near Ayutla, voted on Sunday in favor of having local militiamen provide security. (Mauricio Palos for The Wall Street Journal)
Don Bardomero is helping to feed the armed villagers. (Mauricio Palos for The Wall Street Journal)
I wanna do my part in helping them fight the drug war on their home turf.... Their is no stinking reason for the drug king pins to be so vile. They could of profited, helpped the local villages prosper, organized something better instead of wallowing in evil and torturing villagers.... I never hear of big time pot growers engaged in acts so vile people organize resistance. Cocaine is a hell of a drug. The CIA peddles the fuck outta it. ....
Alas, I can not afford to do it... I is too poor and family comes first.
Tis a shame... I might of ask them to help round up the american side to show us how it's done... I bet their experience in dealing with coyotes and cartels is invaluable.
Lord knows ,in the US ,if you hear about the militias it is only in a negative light. One never hears of a militia stepping in and standing up to illegal / tyrannical government.
