The Disenfranchisement of Rural America

by James Huffman (member of the Property Rights, Freedom, and Prosperity Task Force)

Anyone who pays even passing attention to American politics is familiar with the map (Figure 1) of the United States showing states in which a majority of voters favored President Obama (colored blue) and those where Romney garnered the most votes (in red). This map conveys three dominant messages: first, that states can be meaningfully described as either red or blue; second, that the West Coast, the upper Midwest, and the Northeast are solidly blue, and the rest of the country is mostly red; and third, that, geographically speaking, more of the country is red than blue.

Those concerned about how Romney lost in what appears to be a mostly red country should refer themselves to Figure 2, in which the states are distorted to reflect their populations. More populous states have more votes in the Electoral College than do sparsely populated states. The Disenfranchisement of Rural America by James Huffman Figure 2

But a third map (Figure 3) showing the nation’s 3,035 counties in the same color scheme reveals that portraying states as either blue or red obscures much of what we might want to know about the states and the voters who inhabit them. On this map, we see that most of the blue states are in fact mostly red. The reality of vast expanses of red in some of the bluest of states should concern us if we truly care about self-governance.

It is not just Rural america. It is all of us. IT is Diebold and the electoral colleges that is oppressing us. Diebold and the electoral college must be stopped and a popular vote must be instituted.

Till then your vote for presdent remains an opinion poll and we remain in tyranny.

a popular vote must be instituted.

HELL NO!!!

Whatever government is elected must be held responsible to uphold the Constitution which document alone provides for their existence. Otherwise, we're being ruled by force of arms.

What titorite is supporting is mob rule (popular vote).

The Constitution has long been ignored even though it's patronized with a snicker by those in power that keep us like mushrooms eating shit in the dark.

No Constitutional money = no Constitutional Rule. It's that simple.

The "Rights" once guaranteed/protected by the Constitution have been forfeited by 99.9% of Americans in lieu of the "privileges" granted by the FEDERAL US GOVERNMENT through agreements voluntarily entered into for any benefit or entitlement, whether obtained or even expected.

I think most of us are so indoctrinated that we aren't able to perceive the frauds being perpetrated upon us. We don't all "get it" at the same time either, so patience is required when trying to awaken others to the reality.

An example of this indoctrination is the Social Security Insurance System. Most of us (including myself) grew up thinking we had an account that we paid into in order to set aside funds for our old age. Why didn't I see this as socialism for so many years ? Why do most people still think that they have an account (or maybe a lock box) that holds their individual benefit, when the Supreme Court has ruled that no one is "entitled" and that SS Benefits are a "gratuity" that the FEDS pay if they choose to.

Anyway, we're supposed to be governed according to the limits set upon the government (like a restraining order) wherein we are to be treated as the donee beneficiaries.

You too noone. I am not suggesting mob rule.

I am suggesting self empowerment.

God damnit, if you are smart enough to elect your mayor, your councilman, your representative, why is when it comes to the office of president we are all suddenly too stupid to be trusted to vote for the man ourselves?

titorite, a cursory glance at the current conditions in America are proof positive that we are too stupid to be trusted.

We had a Constitution and a republican form of government ... and stupidly exchanged it for a socialist democracy.

Many many of too freaking many people are not politically active. Few vote. Even less rise to the higher call of political activity such as petitioning and protesting and the like.

These people are a minority and they are not stupid.

If we kicked the electoral colleges to the curb all the apathetic people would not suddenly find political motivation. BUt those of us that are politically active would finnally have a fair and proper say.

As far as we know there were "millions" of "voters" actively trying to select the next President ... Obama came out victorious. Now that's pretty stupid.

I'm not saying the electoral college is good or bad. I'm saying the general population are too weak to to give up their addiction to the government tit. Some say, you get the government you deserve - and I agree.

The millions of socialists in America including you and the entire conservative/republican and even libertarian constituency aren't able to see themselves as socialists and until they do - y'all are serfs and peasants running around like chickens with your heads cut-off under the yoke of your masters at the FEDERAL RESERVE. Debtors have NO RIGHTS.

If you use a SSN for any reason (benefit) you are a socialist. What do you think social insurance is ?

When I made the statement that almost everyone in America is a socialist it was to get your attention and at the same time make the point that we need to call a spade a spade. Social insurance is definitely socialism. So, if you have a Social Security Account or Account Number you are "IN FACT" a card carrying socialist, I don't care what the government schools are teaching.

Social(ist) Security didn't exist until 1935. (FDR used it to drag the States into FEDERAL JURISDICTIONAL CONTROL).

Personally, I don't think the average American should have to study the law and the history of it in order to live free or survive but on the other hand we have expressions like "ignorance of the law is no excuse" that oppose my personal feelings.

I think that people should admit they've been lied to about everything and start over, rather than back engineer the laws to find out the same thing. We've been misled for the entirety of our lives.
