As of 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service reported 9 inches of snow at Fort Wayne International Airport – setting a record for the day – on top of 1 inch that was already on the ground. At Huntertown, 7 inches fell by 9 p.m. Monday, with 2 inches having fallen in the previous hour.

National Serv-All has suspended all trash and recycling collections for Wednesday. All collections for the rest of the week will be performed one day later than usual: Wednesday work on Thursday, Thursday work on Friday, and Friday work on Saturday. The Macbeth Road Landfill will remain open.

Many area school systems announced 2-hour delay Tuesday night, while Fort Wayne Community Schools waited until 6 a.m. today to decide to cancel school today. A Facebook posting Tuesday night about FWCS' decision to wait until today to check on road conditions before deciding on whether to delay or close brought nearly 70 angry responses within 7 minutes. The posting was removed within an hour.

FWA is southeast of the city and didn't get as much snow as northeast ~12". East central got 10". We really got clobbered.

I lived back there in 1978 when a snowstorm/blizzard really shut down the entire state. I was in Evansville when it hit and had to stay there for 3 days under "martial law" !

I moved to San Diego shortly after.

I was here for the blizzard of '78. There were drifts high enough that you could walk up onto the roofs of the houses in the neighborhood I lived in. The worst I had to deal with today was only about 3 feet high. We've got rain moving in early next week. Flooding is gonna be a problem.

Had a friend whose back yard was completely filled to roof level. We made an igloo in the middle and an ice slide leading into it. His mother was not amused.

I lived through the "Blizzard of 78" in Fort Wayne. It was followed by a massive spring "Flood of 78". I had to drive home Wed AM from the hospital....not fun.
