DANVILLE, Va. — A star of the TV show "Moonshiners" has been arrested for public intoxication.

Police in Danville announced Tuesday they had arrested Steven Ray Tickle – known on the show as "Tickle" – at a convenience store on Thursday.

Police say they received a report of a man sitting in the parking lot of Charley's Stop and Shop drinking, and they saw Tickle with an open container and smelling of alcohol.

The 35-year-old Tickle was released from the Danville City Jail later that day. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney. A spokesman for Discovery Channel, which airs the show, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

"Moonshiners" follows people making the illegal brew. The show's website describes Tickle as "a hard working still hand who loves moonshine."

Poster Comment:

I believe Tickle has been just about past going in every episode of Moonshiners that I saw. And no, I don't believe they are making any real moonshine on the show. Tim Smith, the guy Tickle worked with, reveals a lot about his identity on the show, including the fact that he is Chief of the Climax Volunteer Fire Department.

Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has made a statement to the Associated Press that states that a crime is not taking place on the show because it is a dramatization, and no illegal liquor is being produced.

“If illegal activity was actually taking place, the Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement would have taken action.”

So Moonshiners is just another unreal "reality" show. Not that it isn't entertaining at times but anyone with more than two brain cells knows you don't make moonshine on national television and let everyone see who you are.

Wait a minute, moonshine is illegal?

Honestly, I didn't know it was.

God is always good!

It falls in that grey area. It is illegal if you don't pay the government their extractions. Tim Smith is trying to go legal and Popcorn Sutton's wife jumped through all the hoops so that she could sell his. Now don't take my word for it because I have not tasted it but I know someone who did buy some of the legal shine and he said something to the effect that pisswater would be a credit to it. Said it was awful.

Here is the picture I found of Tickle, guess it was the mugshot.

So hard to tell any difference in that and the way he always looks on the show...

Reagan and 9 others tied for first, 15 presidents tied for second, 18 tied for third, and Obama came in fourth.

I am sure they all have some added drama to make it interesting for television. But I also like Deadliest Catch and Swamp People (and Ax Men too, that Shelby Stanga is funny).

Probably the most phony of any show on television is the Gold Rush show. Someone wisely said that Honey Boo Boo would make more money selling empty Mountain Dew cans than those Hoffman guys ever made mining gold.

And that old Papa Smurf lookin' dude (Jack Hoffman) gets right up my nose, talking the talk about being a good Christian and then finding out he's a notorious slumlord. And I heard him "pray" on one show, " "Lord we ask that you richly bless us with gold." Kinda set my teeth on edge.

I watch that one too but can't stand him. I did think they gave DJ a hard tome for no reason.

as for Gold Rush, I had to quit watching it. Phoney as a $3 bill. Quit watching bigfoot one too and Ghosthunters.

Shelby Stanga had nothing to do with the idiots who gave DJ a hard time. Different crew altogether.

Never watched the bigfoot show since I think that is all bs and never have watched Ghosthunters either.

I'm aware of that. Shelby is the weirdo who put the back hoe on his paddle boat. DJ was working in the northwest I believe. I like that crew though I think the old man is an ass.

I suspect that "weirdo" will make a LOT of money with that back hoe on the paddle boat. And I agree with you that the old man on that crew out in the northwest is an ah.
