/6) Not listening to your body if you're injured, or pushing yourself too hard/not resting enough in between sessions. Ok, gentlemen, this one is aimed mainly at you because we men can be a stubborn lot. It can be tough to swallow your pride and admit that you can't do something. But that can cause a world of pain when it comes to working out... One of the most important parts of exercising and developing an exercise program is knowing your limits. Listen to your body! If you have a sore joint or are consistently experiencing extreme pain in a muscle, avoid working out that muscle. If it doesn't get better in two weeks, consult a doctor.
When lifting (or doing any strenuous exercise, for that matter), it's important not to lift too much over too short of a time period. Your muscles and tendons will need sufficient time to repair and strengthen themselves after a heavy lifting session. You should give yourself at least one day's rest between days in which you work out the same muscle groups.
And ideally, you should only be lifting each muscle group just once a week if you're exercising for health.
