Antidepressants have been recognized as potential inducers of mania and psychosis since their introduction in the 1950s. Klein and Fink1 described psychosis as an adverse effect of the older tricyclic antidepressant imipramine. Since the introduction of Prozac in December, 1987, there has been a massive increase in the number of people taking antidepressants. Preda and Bowers2 reported that over 200,000 people a year in the U.S. enter a hospital with antidepressant-associated mania and/or psychosis. The subsequent harm from this prescribing can be seen in these 4,800+ stories.

Before the introduction of Prozac in Dec. 1987, less than one percent of the population in the U.S. was diagnosed with bipolar disorder also known as manic depression. Now, with the widespread prescribing of antidepressants, the percent of the population in the United States that is diagnosed with bipolar disorder (swing from depression to mania or vice versa) has risen to 4.4%3 . This is almost one out of every 23 people in the U.S.

this website is a super way to show people how dangerous these drugs are.

In the middle of a drug war, dangerous drugs are being prescribed to CHILDREN on an hourly basis. This is a national disgrace. These are poisons. They are being handed out to our military like M&M's.

America's Medicated Army

Before the advent of SSRIs — Lilly's Prozac was the first to be approved by the FDA, in 1987, followed by Zoloft from Pfizer, Paxil from GlaxoSmithKline, Celexa from Forest Pharmaceuticals and others — existing antidepressants had many disabling side effects. Impaired memory and judgment, dizziness, drowsiness and other complications made them ill suited for troops in combat. The newer drugs have fewer side effects and, unlike earlier drugs, are generally not addictive or toxic, even when taken in large quantities. They work by keeping neural connections bathed in a brain chemical known as serotonin. That amplifies serotonin's mood-brightening effect, at least for some people....>

Why won't the national media talk about it any more? It's as if the problem doesn't even exist. A Drug War. And the most dangerous drugs are prescribed. Just what the hell is going on?

The first line tells us all we need to know about this. Those two shooters at Columbine High School in Colorado were both on anti-depressants.

Why won't the national media talk about it any more?

Because all of the PR about their no longer being addictive or having more adverse side effects than heroin is bullshit. In recent months I've run into more than one article talking about how drug trials are phonied up and cherry picked. That is even before we get into the revolving door of Pharmaceutical executives moving in and out of key FDA positions.
