It is really a wonderful appliance.
You can cook dang near anything in it.
The put it in, walk away, and come back a few hours later for a stupendous meal, is near miraculous.
Thank you, Mr.Crock, for your pot.

Thanks for that link, some awesome recipes there!!
Last week I put two venison steaks in a glass casserole dish, 1 small box of Creole rice (about 1 cup), one package of onion soup mix directly on the steaks, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup mixed with 2 cups water, baked at 400 for 1hr 15 min. Easy, delicious, and healthy.

I got a crock pot for Christmas two years ago. Mostly I tried making veg/beef stew. So far I haven't made anything in it that tastes good. It's probably not the crock pot's fault though.

that'll work. I have a nice roast simmering in a dutch oven right now. coat it with flour, brown then pour water over it. simmer for three hours. I put a package of dry onion soup mix in the water, cream of mushroom condensed works well too. instant gravy. some biscuits, veggies and potatoes. yum! same thing works for pork chops only 30 minutes instead of the 3 hours.
A study group recently released its findings as to the best presidents of the United States of America.
Obama has been rated as the 4th best president ever:
Reagan and 9 others tied for first, 15 presidents tied for second, 18 tied for third, and Obama came in fourth.
I cooked mine for 10 hours. Maybe that's the problem.
can't really over cook in a crock pot. 8 to 10 on low is normal. common to put something on before leaving for work then eating when you get home. common mistake is too much moister. my husband does not use stew meat but buys cheap roasts or round steak etc chops that up and uses it. don't forget to remove the bay leaves.

I think for stew, a chuck roast diced up is the best cut of meat. Once the stew is done, I make bisquik dumplings and put them on top of the stew and bake for 20 minutes.
After the first 4-6 hours, go open it up, poke around stir it and check the tenderness.
If you can screw up a slow cooked meal.....

These days, I just buy the Cagun Gumbo pints from Randalls/Safeway store here.
Not enough people left to brew a three gallon pot.

LOL! And what if he says, "I would rather she would do that"?

Promise yourself that you'll dust it off and fire it up this coming week!

I mortgaged the house and bought 2 commercial freezers and 4 large homeowner freezers, maxed out the credit cards to fill them with four years of food, and wrapped the electrical cords in aluminum foil, so Im pretty much covered for whatever North Korea can throw at us.

The "refresco" goes good in a batch of stew. Replace the a couple of cups of the water/broth with a good ale or a porter for a fuller flavor. Works great with Venison or Elk Stew.
