"The cycle of societies past their prime degenerating into leftist decadence and general weakness and experiencing a population decline will inevitably give way to new rightist ideologies of strength emerging from the ashes. One standpoint is associated with the decline, the other with ascension." - Peter Wiggin

To the Dark Side feminism leads! Screw all of us over it will! And has! (And when the Dark Side takes over, some people just give up and play video games in their basement all day long because they have no hope of jobs and women - what Freud described as essential: Love and Work.)

I see a fair number of spinsters these days: never married, no children, no home (apartment instead), a cat or two. They're hostile and blame all their problems on men. Usually they're on a combination of anti-anxiety and anti-depressant "medication."

Spinsters have always existed but there are many more today. How did this happen?

A few reasons, I believe.

One: women have gained, though the force of law, what might be considered men's "formal" power. Economic and political power. At the same time men, again through the force of law, are losing these things. So, as women ("educated" women, I'll add) move up, men move down.

At the same time, women still want their "informal" power: you ask me out, you pay my way, you ask me to marry you. Also, informally, women want a man who is at least as good-looking and makes as much money they do. Usually, more money.

So, as men are moving down, women are moving up, but still looking to "marry up." Fewer and fewer men meet these criteria. Hence, hostile spinsters wondering where "all the good men have gone." (My stock answer is: "Right where you left them; back in your 20's.")

Incidentally, the delusion of women "trying to have it all" is one of the biggest red flags that exists signaling the decline of society. These women want all the advantages of being a man and a woman and none of the responsibilities.

Additionally, since men are moving down, and losing their "formal" power, there is no reason for them to get married. It's got to the point there is no benefit for men to get married. This is one of the reasons close to 50% of all people are unmarried.

There is especially no reason for any guy who is good-making and who makes a lot of money to get married. He can, for all practical purposes, have a harem. I first noticed that when I was 19, when I realized at that age, if polygamy was legal, I could have had half a dozen wives.

Now the problem with harems is that while a few guys will get most of women (at least the attractive ones) the vast majority of men will end up with no one except the unattractive and crazy women no one wants.

Polygamy (one man, many women) has been consistently ruled illegal in the U.S., and good thing, too. There was a case a few years ago of a polygamous Mormon community in the U.S. When the boys turned 16 they were simply cast adrift in the world since they would be competition for the young women, who were generally married to older men.

There have been some truly creepy polygamous societies in the world. In the polygamous Islamic world the unmarried men go crazy, commit a great deal of crime, and get their heads cut off. Here, in the U.S. they go to prison.

China is a more interesting case. In the past, one very wealthy man (as an aside, looks have nothing to do with this) might have a thousand wives.

It is only in the West that the concepts of monogamy and romantic love exist. I don't find that surprising. I do not believe love exists in a polygamous society. How can a man love half a dozen or a thousand women? How can any woman love a man when she is just one of many wives?

Jung had some wisdom here when he wrote you can have love or power, but not both. You can have love or the intoxication of power. There can be the intoxication of power when you have a harem of a dozen or a hundred or a thousand women, but I do not believe love factors into this at all.

But let's get back to China.

Now here's where things get very interesting in the place. How did these men get all this wealth? One reason is that the wife had to offer a dowry, gotten from their families. Dowries have usually been considered a leg up to get the the family started. If a man has to support a thousand women, he must be very wealthy indeed. (Also, if a man has a thousand wives, some of them - possibly most of them - will end up, for all practical purposes, as semi-spinsters. No man could pay anything but the most minimal attention to all of them except his favorites.)

Dowries (or groom prices) exist when there is a storage of men. Bride prices exist where there is a shortage of brides. Technically these days in the U.S. women should be paying groom prices for men, but of course even the suggestion would outrage them them and make them froth at the mouth.

In China, since it cost a lot of money to marry a daughter, there was a lot of female infanticide. There still is.

Poor families couldn't pay dowries but could be paid a bride-price if their daughter was attractive enough and became a concubine. Not a wife, but a concubine.

How does this apply here? Again, since women think there is a shortage of men, they should pay a groom-price. They will not do this. Since they think there is a shortage of acceptable men, many will end up as spinsters. Those who do not, since they cannot marry up, will end up a being a member of a "soft" harem.

Since the law now benefits women at the expense of men, many families will invest more resources in daughters than men. Women will move up economically through the force of law (usually with worthless degrees in Human Resources, Management, etc.) while men will move down unless they can get degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math). Few men can do that.

Since marriage no longer benefits men, there will be less of it. There will be more single mothers. There is nothing good about children without fathers; the problems they have are well-documented.

The economy will get worse and worse as more boys "fail to launch" because of missing fathers (men create society and science and technology). There will be more crime and more people on welfare. There will be more single mothers (supported by taxpayers) with screwed-up kids.

All of these bad things have come about through the government interfering in society and benefiting "educated" women at the expense of all men. Those men who are wealthy and good-looking will do okay, although many will ruin their lives later on (the more stupid in the Manosphere refer to these guys as "Alphas"; in reality the old term applies: cads).

Overall, I can't see any good coming out of all this. Ultimately it won't benefit anyone. Of course, none of this will stand. It'll collapse, as it always does, and then we'll pick up the pieces, as we always do, dust ourselves off, and keep going.

You make a lot of good points although I fall short of agreeing across the board.

First the complaints women had about unfair treatment, from which feminism allegedly sprung, were right. In Western Culture women have been treated as chattels and accorded less than equal treatment on the level of citizens and individuals with natural rights equal to that of men. However, that is also conditioned by normal human sexual relationships and the interactions between men and women. Those are both cultural and to some degree governed by biologic urges. Without getting deeply into the philosophy of sex there is a distinction between physical urges and desires, and spirituality. Feminism, being another materialist philosophy, makes no distinction between the two. (Here one has to be careful in generalizing, putting aside pathological sex, sex falls into two main categories: Sex for fun, and sex for love, and the two are not the same on the spiritual level. One is best entered into with a spirit of play (naughty play but play nonetheless) and the other operates on a much deeper level - that of the bonding between two sympatico spirits. Most women recognize this but too few men.)

Feminism, at its roots, began with just grievances but was quickly co-opted and taken along more malign lines. Gloria Steinem admitted in her own book that Ms. Magazine was begun with CIA funding, and that should give a solid clue - Feminism became a medium of changing the culture to conform with the desires of someone else. There was also the Lesbian element which gravitated to Feminism as they manifested their pathological hatred of men and their desire for access to attractive women. Their participation has been duplicitous at best, and one can find evidence for that assertion if one reads what they actually wrote.

You do rightly point out the contradiction in female desires for power and money (which feminism told them they wanted in their own right) and the contradiction that as preferences have been established for women correspondingly there are fewer opportunities for men. So it presents a situation where there is a dwindling pool of well educated men with a solidly middle class or above income. If a woman restricts her tastes to good looking men (with the size of equipment she has been told to demand), who are well educated and have a good income the pool shrinks even further.

Men are no less affected as our culture still teaches men that their job is to be the hunter (provider), the defender, and the lover. Yet put up against feminism they are emasculated to the degree that often any prospective female partner, makes more and has other unrealistic expectations. So, they give up as it is a no-win situation in attempting to attract the kind of women that they would prefer. And with the growth of Porn for women the objectification of men as merely vehicles for female sexual gratification parallels the attitude toward women in much of the Internet's number one destination sites i.e., Porn Sites. (Porn and its generally negative effect on society would require a much longer post and digresses from the point here. Not that I am opposed to sex or prudish about it - Viva' La Differance! It is rather more the dysfunctional glorification of pathological sex that is a problem. As well is its effect on the already unstable.) (Oh and I should define my terms: Pathological Sex is any sexual activity which negatively affects the participants either physically or, importantly, psychically.)

So, returning to the effects of Feminism upon women and our culture. Because feminism was co-opted for other agendas it was perverted to interests that were not necessarily in either men's or women's best interests. So, as a result, we wind up in a society and legal system that has been perverted to the point that increasingly men are unwilling to undertake the burden of marriage because the risks outweigh the rewards. Women are routinely granted preference in the courts unless the man can document exhaustively that the woman's behavior was the not only the cause of the divorce but that she is also unfit if there are children involved (children who in their own right are victimized by feminism) and still lose any legal case.

So, negatives keep stacking up. Naomi Wolf, who has begun to wake up, tried tackling the issues and contradictions in "Who Stole Feminism". She was able to recognize that militant lesbians were using feminism to wage war against men, but at that time I don't think she quite twigged to how much covert involvement existed from the perversion inserted by CIA Psychiatrists.

So, at this juncture we are presented with a real mess. Brighter women have either realized, or begun to realize, that they were sold a bill of goods, but most, even if intelligent and well educated, have not done the study to find out, "Why?". As well, realize it or not, they have had an entire set of attitudes drummed into them, to the point they become unexamined assumptions, which I suspect most do not even recognize or analyze. So, they are left with a dissatisfaction with the existing state of affairs but still want that rich, well hung, adonis who dotes on their every whim, and will accept nothing less because they have had it drummed into them that it is their right. So, reality falling short of expectations they wind up with cats and lesbians.

With a legal system tilted very heavily against men, and a poisonous philosophy that treats men with the assumption that "All men are created evil" it creates a dysfunctional chasm that has no clear and immediate solution in sight. As for you well educated, high paid, women with unrealistic expectations - I hope you enjoy your spinsterhood or succession of female lovers.

I burn coal in my forge, it gets the iron to the heat it needs in order to shape it. both my wife and I are over half a century in age and we can bring the embers to full blast. the pug lover is still pissing and moaning because the closest he gets to a kiss is having one of his deformed dogs lick his face.

As a postscript I wanted to add I do not agree unreservedly with GWW. I think she makes the problem more complex than needs.

It really boils down to:

Men and Women both have separate but equal roles.

In our culture men have certain roles and responsibilities which are cultural norms i.e., expected of them. Despite feminism demanding certain things for women and certain behaviors of men (that conflict with other cultural demands) they have not been relieved of their historical duties while to some degree women have. Under the current regime men have not been relieved of what the culture expects of them (a man who lives on his wife's earnings is called a leech, a gigolo, or a "boy toy", and a woman who lives on her husband's earnings is called a housewife and mother). Even when a man has a substantial job and income if his wife makes more he is often the butt of jokes. Feminists expect men to either be content with this arrangement or "know their place" (and so again we see the diminuition of the man and thus an attack on his beingness and sense of self worth). There are not a lot of men who can live with that and still remain psychically whole.

Guys, just like gals, like having spaces where they can be guys without having to cater to female whims i.e., a place where they "can let their hair down". A place where, metaphorically, they can spit on the floor and fart without risking a sexual harassment lawsuit. (Not to mention the misuse of "sexual harassment" by petty spiteful women to get back at a man they do not like.) However, feminism has been bent on ensuring that no such place is allowed to exist "because it is sexist".

Marriage and divorce laws have tilted so far in the favor of women that marriage has, for men, become a proposition where (if he has accomplished much of anything) he risks his entire future, prosperity, and happiness by getting married. Should his "soul mate" decide that she is no longer satisfied with the arrangement he winds up in a flophouse and she with 3 bedrooms and the kids and a very large chunk of his earnings. So it is not a matter of, "Why buy a cow when milk is cheap?" but that one risks being disemboweled by buying a killer cow. So, the risk has become too great for many men when they see the wreckage around them. There is an old fashioned term for this: Prudence.

I have seen men go to great lengths when presented by a spiteful judgment to say, "Fuck You." One man bulldozed the family home the Sunday before the Monday he was going to be required to sign it away to his spiteful ex. Another retired from the service and when his wife, who earned more than he did, demanded and got half of his retirement - wooed her, re-married, went back on Active Duty, and then rather than retire a second time he took and accepted an Honorable Discharge which meant no retirement at all. He then dumped HER.

The current state of affairs between men and women in American culture can best be described as dysfunctional.

Marriage? HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO?

While I don't always agree with him he does have a few valid points from time to time. Now I have met, and known, some very strong and decent women, but they are becoming more of an exception in our dysfunctional culture where men are being portrayed in the media as disposable bumbling idiots who are "insensitive to a woman's needs".

Frankly, I still adore women and always have. Maybe I'm strange in this way but most of my best friends have all been women and there are a few that I have trusted with my most vulnerable inner being - things I would be very unlikely to share with another man. I love them to death, but there are certain realities in the current state of our culture that are not helpful and not acknowledging the realities and acting to change them is simply resulting in cultural disintegration and the death of the family. Not to mention a lot of unhappiness for both halves of humanity.
