A cry I hope never to have to hear or utter: "To Arms! To Arms! The Federals are coming!"
The next few years are going to be interesting ones. The winds of resistance are stirring and on the breath lies one word: REVOLUTION.
The difference between then and now was that they knew they were each individually free (without the need to have a Constitution tell them they were) ... today people really don't think of themselves as free (even though the Constitution tells them they are) otherwise the lead would already be flying.
We should all be livid. Stop acting like docile, mentally castrated pussies and grow a pair. It's time to get in their face. Why should we speak in hushed tones and act all polite when we are being raped every day?
You make a good point. The colonists, which includes my ancestors, were raised in an environment where there was very little government and so grew up in freedom for several generations - to the point that any government imposition was seen clearly as it was - an attempt to control and assert arbitrary authority over them, and that is what they rejected because they knew it was a false authority. Freedom is as much a point of view as it is a political state.
"Believe nothing merely because you have been told it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be kind, conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings - that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide. ~ Gautama Siddhartha The Buddha
The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable. ~ H. L. Mencken
