As most of you know, I haven't had the time to participate in or monitor 4um as I once did. That's not going to change. I will not be able to read every post every day. Truthfully, when I created this forum, it was never my intention to be a heavy handed administrator and it was always my hope that participants appreciate that, respect it, and, thereby, exercise self control.

For the most part, that has been the case--until lately.

The animosity and incivility and accusations displayed towards one another has become almost intolerable to me. It's caused me to feel ashamed that I am the owner of this forum. I am actually considering pulling the plug as I cannot see any value in letting this continue.

I would like to know your thoughts and opinions. Subscribe to *4um Admin News*

Thank you for your eloquence. I can find nothing with which I disagree.

The plain truth is that most of us are pretty well set in what we believe, and "discussing" topics on a web forum isn't going to change that.

Maybe for older topics, but not newer ones. At first I was thinking that talk about the Boston bombing using actors faking injuries was crazy talk. Then I saw the evidence and based on that I don't think it is crazy talk at all anymore. It doesn't make much logical sense to use actors there, but then again it doesn't make much logical sense for people to want to rule the world and kill billions in wars either when they already have more money then they could spend in their lifetimes and the highest standard of living possible for any humans on planet Earth maybe ever, but they desire it nevertheless.

And I promise to make an effort to not pick on Turtle so much in the future.

Yes, most of us miss the Cynicom and wish that he would return to posting here.

We have email communication, but I do miss his thoughts and responses in open 4um.

Sorry about the nomination for ban hammer duty, Loddy. I know that you probably don't want anything to do with that, but that's what makes you a perfect fit. Anybody volunteering for that job has an agenda and should be automatically excluded.

lol - just like politicians, anyone wanting to be one, shouldn't become one.

Thank you for the undeserved compliment, but the beauty of 4 is the lack of the MF mods.

Any site that has mods, has moronic-members.

We are better than that.

We really are.

Let's all of us call out a member who goes over the top against another member, and remind them what we're about here.

To paraphrase Superman, "Truth, Justice, and (what used to be) the American way."

Apologies for the rant.

"Any poster deliberately posting disinformation on behalf of a foreign government (whether paid or not) to subvert the United States or the Constitution, should be banned without explanation or discussion. There's only one here that I'm aware of."

There are at least two --- one for Israel and one for Mexico.

I don't want them banned though. Some people do more to hurt their cause than to help it. Goldi-lox is a good example.

She comes back to her 4um and finds us acting like some 8th grade jerk-offs.

How else do you expect her to react?

Thank you Christine!

I agree. I have enjoyed the time I have spent reading articles and posting my thoughts here. Would hate to see 4um shut down because of a few disruptors but I thought that was why we had the clown filter. I use it and it seems to have worked pretty well for me.

I have seen 2 good conspiracy forum go to shit.

First one GTTO went the way of the dodo (not extinct yet... soon enough) because it was unmoderated and the owner and acolyte wanted only his own truth to shine out. You posted something that might negate the "truth", it was unwelcome. Other posters might have gotten confused and tough something else. It got to the point that it became an elitist clique that one have to be a member to even read threads. A totally screwed up environment. The only people now posting new threads there are the owner and his acolyte.

Regardless how one decide to view this, the result is the same, the truth is not coming out.

The other one was left to run amok in the name of free speech. Cliques formed over the span of 2 years, chasing everybody with their incessant trolling and incessant personal attacks, conspiracy theories that were posted, ridiculed by the same people who were left to keep the site up and running when the creator and owner left.

The end result, the site is still up and the bullies have won, they successfully have kicked out of their sandbox other members who had something to contribute by either post hunting them or trolling them out of the place. It was supposed to be a replacement to ATS without moderation, it has failed. The original owner does not even want to touch it with a 60 foot pole.

Leave a garden unattended, two things might happen.

1, It dries up, lack of water and becomes a patch of dried cracked earth (In Texas it will.)

2, If you do not weed it, grass, flowers, vegetables... will fight the weeds to get some sunshine, when they don't, they are overpowered withers and die. The weeds need to be pulled out, by the roots.

It would be sad if freedom4um were to go down this way, damn, it would be tragic :o(

Is it safe to assume that some members more than others have felt the lack of sunshine and are being suffocated by weeds?

You cannot ask a lot of people to get along under threat of pulling the plug without being willing to pull the weeds out. To do so is unfair. Might as well ask the flowers to do the job themselves, they are unable to do so, they do not have the means to do so.

If you want to try something new, I know someone who might be willing to code something. It would be a mean for us, posters to self moderate our own threads by post banning disruptors in the thread.

Just a thought.

i don't want to be a fuddy dud, but no joomla or any other canned CMS for that matter. The hackers know those scripts inside and out and know every possible way on earth to exploit the weaknesses.

The nice thing about 4um is that even people that can access the scripts from the inside have trouble figuring out just what the heck it is doing. ;)
