Teen Accused Of South Africa Family Murders

A South African teenager has been arrested for allegedly hacking to death four family members with an axe, including his mother and an infant sister, in an apparent satanic attack.

The 14-year-old boy's mother, 42, was found dead in the family's corrugated iron-shack home, and the body of his three-month-old sister in a nearby field.

His 58-year-old grandmother and seven-year-old brother died in hospital.

The boy's two other sisters, aged eight and nine, ran to their neighbours during the killings and raised the alarm early on Friday morning.

The youngster, from the Etwatwa informal settlement east of Johannesburg, was captured by police within hours of fleeing the scene.

He was due to appear at Benoni Magistrates' Court on Monday where he is expected to face charges of murder.

Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the murders, but community members told Eyewitness News the killings may have been part of a satanic ritual.

The teenager's family told the radio programme they have disowned the boy.

"Even now I can't cope, because I have to take the kids and they have to stay with me," an uncle said.

"There is no other family member. They are all dead," he added.

South Africa has one of the highest murder rates - outside war zones - in the world.

Up to 16,000 people were killed between 2011 and 2012, according to official statistics.

Dete mysterious travelling bag linked to satanist

DETE villagers are living in fear for their lives following a mysterious bag which has reportedly caused a number of accidents in the village.

It is reported that Nyuyombo villagers discovered a bag in the middle of the road in their area and since the fateful day, the place has become a black spot.

"A month ago, a big travellers bag was found in the middle of the road and it was kept at a villager's homestead for days, but no one came for it until it disappeared. Strangely, after its disappearance, there have been a number of accidents at the scene where the bag was found," said a local villager.

"The accidents have been linked to the bag because all the drivers involved in the accidents claim that they would have seen a bag in the middle of the road and in the process they lose control of the vehicle while trying to avoid the ballooned bag which would have turned into a 'mountain?'," said another villager.

They revealed that they suspect that the bag was left by a Satanist who wanted to feast on the blood of the injured and dead from the accidents.

"We realised that there was more to the accidents than what met the eye and therefore the villagers fearing for their lives confronted the village leaders over the issue. A meeting was held where traditional healers from the area confirmed the people's suspicions that there was an evil spirit haunting the place. A cleansing ceremony will be held at a date yet to be announced," said the source.

The village head confirmed the incident, but refused to divulge more details saying they want to find the root of the problem first.
