Franklin was correct; our national bird (and foreign policy) should have been the Native American Turkey, and not the Bald Eagle.

I prefer the rattlesnake. The eagle is known for being a superior predator, always out of reach and watching for prey. The rattlesnake is known for giving fair warning to enemies, and otherwise minding it's own business. Rattlesnake is better.
A snake is not a bird though. We can have both, a national bird and a national snake. Not that I care about it at all though, because I don't. However the bible does mention an Eagle when Jesus was talking about the last days, I don't know if he was referring to the USA there or not.
