Health Wire (hw-eletter@angelnexus.com)

You and most other readers have probably figured this out already...

Most diet books are full of crap.

The reason there are so many out there is because they're all ineffective. They all proclaim to be the “magic bullet to weight loss”... they come with fancy names like the Ornish Diet, the Dash Diet, and the Omni Diet... and they'll all just set you up for failure.

Because they're all based on pseudoscience and outdated medical studies.

I've read my fair share of diet books (and tried many of their diets as well), and have only found a handful that I'd recommend to my readers...

Escape the Diet Trap: Lose weight for good without calorie-counting, extensive exercise, or hunger by Dr. John Briffa is exactly the sort of book that makes its way onto my list of most effective weight loss books around.

A leading authority on how nutrition impacts your health, Dr. Briffa has 17 years of clinical practice under his belt, in addition to being a former contributing writer for both Men's Health and the United Kingdom's Daily Mail newspaper. Needless to say, Dr. Briffa knows his medicine — which is what makes this book so effective.

Much of the medical advice on diet and nutrition come with people who have plenty of theoretical knowledge on weight loss, but no practical knowledge.

Dr. Briffa has both.

Are you kidding me?

This could be the greatest link ever discovered for supporting unbelievable head-to-toe health.

Your heart, your brain, your sex drive and every single aspect of your health absolutely thrives off of this one common connector. And until now — no one has tried to help it — not like this.

Discover what one renowned physician calls, "the underlying cause of premature aging," and how you can finally help it flourish with an unbelievable one pill wonder.

Briffa begins (and ends) the book with several pages of client testimonials. From the very beginning, you can tell this is one diet with more than its fair share of success stories. Take Teresa, who lost 66 pounds in a year... or Gari who lost 50 pounds in eight months... and then there's JC, who lost about 28 pounds in just six months!

The first part of his book debunks the diet myth that's been floating around the world for the past 30-40 years — the myth that most diet books these days are based on. This is the myth that weight loss revolves solely on calories in/calories: Eat less, exercise more, and you're on easy street to busting your gut. Right? Wrong!

Time and time again, clinical trials have shown that calorie restriction will only bring an average weight loss of a few measly pounds (for a few years worth of work!).

Dr. Briffa goes on to analyze the limitations of the golden child of weight loss, the Body Mass Index (BMI) (and I'll give you a hint... it's not very accurate), and delves into some studies that show where your body fat is located is a better indicator or fat-related health problems than BMI.

He returns to the calories-in calories-out fallacy and shows how inducing a state of hunger through over-exercise and food restriction can slow down your metabolism, which makes weight loss all but impossible — and can actually make you gain weight in the long run.

Then he gets down to the nitty-gritty of possible the greatest preventer of weight-loss in the world today: the Low-Fat Fallacy. This is the belief that saturated fat will make you fat, while low-fat and unsaturated fat-heavy foods will make you skinny.

Dr. Briffa lays out some heavy evidence that this is not the case. And in fact, there is no substantial evidence that supports this case at all. There have even been disastrous consequences to American health in following this poorly researched advice. After all, if it were the case that saturated fat kills, then Americans — who are eating some of the lowest amounts of saturated fat — wouldn't have an obesity problem. That's obviously not the case.

What's the one thing directly correlated with America's obesity epidemic? Processed carbohydrates. Grains of every stripe are guilty.

What makes you fat is the levels of insulin in your blood stream after you eat, as it is the insulin that takes the food you eat and store it as fat. Consuming fat does not raise insulin levels enough to make this a problem. Carbohydrates do — especially those processed carbohydrates I just mentioned.

Miracle "bean" can make you lose weight 24 hours a day

America's weight problem is spiralling out of control... and it's leading to skyrocketing rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Luckily for you, you don't have to spend hours in the gym trying to drop those dangerous pounds...

In fact, it's as simple as eliminating 2 foods from your diet — and including a little known African bean that has been shown to burn fat 24 hours a day!

To find out more about this "miracle bean", you can access your free informational report here.

And that's where Dr. Briffa heads in his next chapter, where he talks about why calories in, calories out don't matter as much as what those unique calories are doing to your metabolism. His clinical experience has shown that fat and protein have a much healthier effect on your metabolism than carbohydrates. They'll keep you satiated longer; they won't cause you to overeat; they don't have detrimental effects in other areas of your health like processed carbohydrates do.

Dr. Briffa sums this point up succinctly in his next two chapters: an effective diet is one where you won't go hungry. Foods that spike your insulin levels (like processed carbs) can cause inflammation that can mess with your hormones and wreck havoc on your circulatory and digestive systems.

Briffa goes on to explain the scientific specifics about why traditional low-fat diets don't work, and then he reveals his own diet solution: You'll be healthiest — and lose weight — when you eat minimally processed food that our bodies evolved to digest the most efficiently: meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

He talks about the importance of good fat in our diet, and debunks the typical recommendation to eat more mono-saturated and polyunsaturated fats (the latter may even increase your risk of heart disease, according to recent studies). He follows this with a vindication of cholesterol, which has gotten a bad rap because of one scientist's zealous quest to demonize this important nutrient.

What happens when you demonize fat, one of the largest sources of energy for human kind?

People start eating less of it — and instead consume more carbohydrates to make up for their energy needs.

In the 1970s, with the demonization of fat, the U.S. government moved to put grains as the most important part of our diet. What was a blessing for Big Grain was disastrous for public health... The massive carbohydrate content of grains aside, there is another problem the inflict on human health: They are also a large source of “anti-nutrients,” which not only hinder vitamin and mineral absorption, but can also cause a whole hose of digestive problems, from Irritable Bowel Syndrome to full-blown celiac's disease.

Briffa moves to expose two more troublesome food items that are a typical part of the Western diet: sweeteners and dairy.

The toxicity of sugar is obvious at this point in his book. But what about artificial sweeteners?

Briffa shows us that they may not be as helpful to weight loss as many people think. And as far as dairy goes, you've been told since childhood that calcium in milk and cheese help build strong bones. After a good review of the evidence, Briffa comes to a startling conclusion: Milk and other dairy products may not be so good for you after all...

Briffa spends the remainder of his book differentiating himself from the crowd. His years of clinical practice in helping people lose weight is summarized in practical diet recommendations of what to eat and not eat in order be at your peak health and shed pounds in a matter of weeks.

He covers which beverages will help in your weight loss efforts, as well as develops simple meal plans to help you on your weight loss journey. He offers up an exercise program simple enough for beginners, but also challenging for the more advanced fitness fanatics.

To sum it up: This is the perfect book for people looking to get a simple understanding of why traditional diets don't work, and why Dr. Briffa's diet does. His advice is very easy to follow, and I have no doubt that if you follow it, you'll be losing weight in no time...

Editor's Note: I do not get any compensation for Dr. Briffa's book. We are very excited to have his expertise on the Health Wire team and want to get his work into as many hands as possible. If you're looking to escape the diet and weight-gain cycle, I recommend checking out Briffa's work as soon as possible.

Yours in health,

Ken Swearengen for Health Wire

Then he gets down to the nitty-gritty of possible the greatest preventer of weight-loss in the world today: the Low-Fat Fallacy. This is the belief that saturated fat will make you fat, while low-fat and unsaturated fat-heavy foods will make you skinny.

That's the brainchild of American scientist/nutball/liar Ansel Keys.

What's the one thing directly correlated with America's obesity epidemic? Processed carbohydrates. Grains of every stripe are guilty.

Absolutely, positively correct. Finally. No grain is fit for human or animal consumption, especially GMOs, which is all of them now.

What makes you fat is the levels of insulin in your blood stream after you eat, as it is the insulin that takes the food you eat and store it as fat. Consuming fat [or proteins - Esso] does not raise insulin levels enough to make this a problem. Carbohydrates do — especially those processed carbohydrates I just mentioned.

Also correct.

Foods that spike your insulin levels (like processed carbs) can cause inflammation that can mess with your hormones and wreck havoc on your circulatory and digestive systems.

Insulin is inflammatory (causes coronary artery disease (CAD)).

He follows this with a vindication of cholesterol, which has gotten a bad rap because of one scientist's zealous quest to demonize this important nutrient.

High cholesterol doesn't matter as long as you don't have CAD from a grain-based high carb diet. High serum cholesterol is caused by your liver overproducing it because of the high carb diet, not the cholesterol in food. Avoid carbs and your cholesterol will be OK.

One of the drivers behind this is the fact that the only thing that this country produces (besides weapons of war, which us peons aren't allowed to possess anyway) is corn and wheat.

After a good review of the evidence, Briffa comes to a startling conclusion: Milk and other dairy products may not be so good for you after all...

But they are far, far less harmful than carbohydrates which the human body is not set up to utilize.

Damn good find, Tatar.
