Title: US Military Thugs with Keyboards to Spread Propaganda Using Up to 10 Online Personas Each

Rumors have long floated around about government shills spreading disinformation on websites that are at odds with the governmental party line. Now it’s official: the US government has awarded a contract to a company in California to create software to manage “online personalities”. The software will allow one person to manage up to 10 personas, and will be used to counter “extremist ideology and propaganda”.

Those who visit forums and websites that tend to object to the actions of the current government won’t be surprised to hear that paid trolls are roaming the internet with the clear purpose of manipulating opinions via social media. Last year, an anonymous author confessed that he had worked as a paid shill targeting several popular alternative websites to spread disinformation.

The online personalities, known as “sock puppets”, will allow the military to “create a false consensus in online conversations, crowd out unwelcome opinions and smother commentaries or reports that do not correspond with its own objectives.”

US Centcom (Central Command) claims that the project will only target foreign sites.

Centcom spokesman Commander Bill Speaks said: “The technology supports classified blogging activities on foreign-language websites to enable Centcom to counter violent extremist and enemy propaganda outside the US.”

He said none of the interventions would be in English, as it would be unlawful to “address US audiences” with such technology, and any English-language use of social media by Centcom was always clearly attributed. The languages in which the interventions are conducted include Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Pashto.

Centcom said it was not targeting any US-based web sites, in English or any other language, and specifically said it was not targeting Facebook or Twitter.

In other words, the military is going to do its best to take over the websites where many alternative media readers exchange ideas, share information, and discuss current events. People conversing in forums or chatrooms may very well be talking with a cyber-soldier whose goal is to influence participants’ thinking with government-issued propaganda. read-propaganda-using-up-to-10- online-personas-each_062013#sthash.AWIfqIcc.dpuf

The Centcom contract stipulates that each fake online persona must have a convincing background, history and supporting details, and that up to 50 US-based controllers should be able to operate false identities from their workstations “without fear of being discovered by sophisticated adversaries”

The “controllers” will use different servers to make it look as though the comments are coming from a variety of locations. They will use “traffic mixing” techniques in order to blend in with other visitors to the sites.

Centcom vows that this operation is not directed towards American citizens, but with the recent revelations about PRISM, it would be difficult to believe that those who would spy on our every move online would have any qualms about manipulating us online.

The Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda was a Nazi government agency to promote their ideology to the masses. Had the internet been around during World War II, there is little doubt that they would have fired up their keyboards in a similar fashion.

The US government seems to really dislike the comparisons to totalitarian regimes of times past.

But when the jackboot fits…

I've seen that software before. Back then it went by the name AOL. It was a great format but was a troll's dream, allowing you to use 7 different screen names at once.

The online personalities, known as “sock puppets”, will allow the military to “create a false consensus in online conversations, crowd out unwelcome opinions and smother commentaries or reports that do not correspond with its own objectives.”

This has been going on since before 2001 - I suspect that the only reason that this is now surfacing is that because simply too many people have become aware of it and for the intimidation factor - "Big Brother ist Vatchink. It is more of the continual barrage of PsyOps to intimidate and beat down the common voices in opposition to the secret dictatorship and to silence and/or discredit the voices of those who are standing in opposition and pointing out the truth. The problem they run into, of course, is that the truth is very durable and it takes ten lies to try to drown out one truth. The truth is a powerful thing in its simplicity. The "truth" just IS - it does not have to do anything to combat itself because it is the most basic thing. The cloud of lies told and repeated by government shills is nothing more than an attempt to obscure the truth in a fog.

Perfectly said - thanks.

Thank you, but that is not the one I am looking for, although it is very telling i.e., the "all seeing eye". No, there was one that was short lived and was pulled very fast as it was too big of a blunder - too obvious I guess. It may have been for the Project TIPS Snitch program, but it was red, white, and blue with an eagle looking through a keyhole snooping on someone.

I believe it was somehow scrubbed...I gave up after 27 pages of eagle looking through keyhole image search.

it was red, white, and blue with an eagle looking through a keyhole snooping on someone.

Thanks.

Sometimes, actually many times, I just numb-out on searches and say screw-it; I'm glazed and tired of it.

How long did it take you to find peeking eagle?

Well, sir, it took several minutes or so total because I had to reset the search parameters, then went on an additional excursion to look for the others and also decided then that I should make a detour through the photo gallery. As I suspected, there was a spycam film among the files of an earlier 4um conference so I grabbed it and flew to my posts as fast as I could but forgot to send it with my last correspondence. Here it is now:

I'm not entirely sure that's what O_I had in mind but thought, even if not exactly a match, that it might be close enough for a substitute. Salute to you too, Sir Quester the 1st. :)

Edited for punctuation.

Those were closer in general concept, but the one I'm thinking of was a slickly done modern computer graphic design, and the eagle was styled in red, white, and blue. Thanks for looking though.

I do to. I have spent a lot of time looking for it over the past year but to no avail. Thanks for the effort in searching though. No, the graphic they came out with backfired right in their face as it was too obviously something out of the Stasi/NWO handbuch.

ALWAYS the Germans/Nazis, NEVER the world-wide communist movement..........

How many miles are the Red Sea Pedestrians going to get out of a very brief period of German history??

hehehehe...

indeed...and many many many many many many miles before the Bolsheviks sleep...

I wonder if Putin might ever get tempted to release Soviet historic files to wikileaks or other "entrepreneurs." Those files could make Putin a trillionaire, no? He might have to move to planet Pluto to spend the $ but...

P.S. have you noticed how many days the news story has been running on Google about the 94 year old WW II geezer the Perfect Ones caught in Minnesota? I'm thinking there can't be that many Google users interested. But Google owner(s), definitely, yes.

You're welcome. Am leaving these pics here, even though they are not close to what you described, because the first 2 were particularly rare finds for that colors-category and the 3rd was recently posted at scientificamerican.com. I think the binoculars and spycraft tentacles on the 2nd are kind of spookish and, surprisingly, the webmaster of the site where it's from seems to know about the early TIA logo that you were looking for. See the quoted notation below, next to the pic references. Perhaps they could help you to locate a copy through the Wayback Machine. Contact info for: Mark Robinowitz.

Eagle Surveillance logo; styled in red, white and blue but no keyhole

Tentacled Spycraft pic | at oilempire.us | Total(itarian) Information Awareness: "Since TIA no longer wants to display their original logo on their webpage -- paid for with US citizen's tax money -- perhaps this logo would be a better alternative ..."
