The chief of Israel’s military intelligence, General Aviv Kochav, has said that the chaos in the Arab world favours Israel and is something that he believes should continue. Speaking at the Herzliya Conference for Intelligence Studies, Gen. Kochav pointed out that the changes around Israel have fundamental implications for its security.

“The current shake up will continue to change the face of the Middle East,” he is quoted on the Ministry of Defence website. “The tremors are getting more violent every day and will produce a vacuum which will be filled by political, Islamist and jihadist elements.”

The intelligence chief asserted that the rise of the Islamists will also have a significant impact on the map of the alliances in the Middle East, adding: “We divided the region in the past into the radical bloc and the moderate bloc, today these two blocs have disappeared.”

The chaos favors Israel ONLY while the chaos is going on, which is a very limited time. In Syria, for example, the civil war weakens the Syrian grip on Lebanon and the Syrian threats to attack Israel, but BOTH SIDES in the Syrian uprising talk up how they hate Israel and vow to destroy it, so as soon as that fighting is settled then things go back to dangerous for Israel. Pretty much the same applies in Iran.

Jews are protected in Iran by the gov't - Kohmeni instituted protection for minority groups when the Shah was overthrown - Iran has the second largest number of Jews in the ME apart from Israel - and young Assad has been restoring Jewish synagogues in Damascus for Jewish worshippers. As well young Assad has been very supportive ( financially) of Syrian Jewish artists for example. Young Assad doesn't sound like a Jew hater to me.

So I'm not sure what sources you have that objectively demonstrate the Syrian and Iranian governments' vow to destroy Israel. Has either of those governments (under young Assad and Kohmeni) attacked Israel without provocation?

Btw, when given the opportunity 5 or 10 years ago to emigrate to Israel - the Israeli gov't even offered $25,000 bribes to each Iranian Jew at the time - Iranian Jews told Israel to stuff their bribes, that they were happy to stay in Iran...much to the embarrassment of Israel.

My point is that if the Syrian and Iranian governments hated Israel and wanted to destroy it, wouldn't they start with the Israeli dual citizens who lived within their own nations' borders?
